I salute the flag. My church encourages me to. My family went through a lot of hardship to become citizens of this country (I'm in the US) and I'm quite happy to be here. However, I don't make the mistake of confusing patriotism for my religion, and I don't believe in the concept of blind, unquestioning patriotism (which, to me, isn't patriotism at all).

Jewish here, and according to Torah law we are to obey the laws of the land where we live as far as it doesn't involve us in idolatry. So if it were law to salute the flag, then we would.
That doesn't mean, however, that we would worship it, that's a whole nother thing. No, we wouldn't worship it, even if it was the law of the land, because that would be idolatry.
Saluting the flag isn't idolatry. Worshipping it, would be.
Personally, religion aside, I would only salute our flag as a sign of mourning - if it were flying at half mast for the death of our country at the hands of greedy, corrupt dictators like Bush and the criminals in both parties, on both sides, who head up the corrupt military/industrial/corporate industries.
The flag needs to be flying upside down actually, in the universally recognised symbol of Distress.
That's just my own opinion though.

No we don't salute the flag, any flag. It's not "forbidden" by the way; it's an unscriptural practice.
To the best of my knowledge neither the Mennonites nor the Amish salute the flag. I live in an area with a large population of
both and there are no flags to be seen on their farms.
By the way, saluting the flag is not a good way to judge citizenship. Anyone can fake the motions.

I stopped saluting the Flag when i realized that the LIE of freedom and Democracy was actually a Bank owned Corporate Empire. A Capitalist Republic. I sincerely hope for a day when we can claim America for its People again. I yearn for the day that People wake up and realize the horrible lie that has been perpetrated upon us instead of falling for the divisive right or left policies.

They do not salute the flag..They take everything it seems out of context. It is a show of respect when you salute the flag..They think of it as an act of worship to idols. They are NO part of the world is what they will also say..But..if they are no part of the world..at all..then why do they accept any help from our government at all then..How many I wonder get help when they need it from the government that they will not show respect to in a simple form as that.

The Watchtower society also forbids some other things . I am a Christian. My religion does not forbid respecting my country or showing honor to that as long as I do not honor my country over my Lord.

No. Saluting the flag reeks of being a Nazi. My religion doesn't play a part in it.

I do not pledge my allegiance to any flag only to Jehovah God. I respect the world we live in, after all He created it. I will never disrespect any ones flags. My worship goes only to Jehovah. (Psalms 83:18)
