Both. God used biological evolution, a natural process of His own design, to produce the biological human "from the dust of the earth". He then breathed into that biological entity spiritual life, free will and an immortal soul, thereby creating humans in His own image and likeness.

A copy-n-paste of an answer I recently gave for a recent similar question.

I still don't understand why so many people are either "God fearing" Creationist or evolution scientists.

I've been exposed to enough science and religion that I'm a "God fearing" scientist.

Science is about the physical world, the Bible is about the Spiritual world. The two do not have to conflict.

Example:
The modern English translation of Genisis can not be taken literal. Evidence of this is in the description of 'days'. The days of creation are seperated by 'evening came followed by morning', words written by a man that presumably believed the world was flat and that the sun travelled accross the sky. But today, we know the earth is round and the earth rotates. So somewhere in the world it's ALWAY morning, noon, and night. So how can you seperate the creation of the world into events happening between night times? You can't without adding something to the text of the Bible to 'explain it'.

Generally speaking, Christians believe that only humans have a soul. So if we want to believe both science and the Bible, why can't we believe that man descended from apes, and that the story of the creation of Adam is a devinely inspired metaphore for the day God gave the first human animal a soul?

Look at it from God's point of view. Assume that you have created the universe, evolution is the means by which you created humans from 'dust', you've given Adam a soul, and it's now time to tell Moses how the world was created. Do you try to explain astrophysics and evolution, or do you just shorten it to say Adam was created from the dust?

One more point to make. The Bible never reveals scientific truth (evolution, the sun and planets, DNA, atomic particals,etc.). The Bible reveals Spiritual truth (man was created by God).

Adam and Eve.
Evolution is still a theory not a fact. Today 6 billion people live on this earth, and they're all were born from father and mother. No one had just evolved from an Abe!

And by the way evolution is the root of Hitler's racism. Evolution leads to the conclusion that people are not born equal. The nature selects the best and the inferior must be eliminated

Adam and Eve were originally a Claymations Studio production much like Gumby. They eventually evolved into dolls like in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Evolution is scientifically verifiable. Adam and Eve is an unsubstantiated myth. The latter requires "belief." The former doesn't.

I'll go with evolution.
