Tell him exactly that--you have pain and want to be able to control it at home on your own. He will know that you have been on prescription pain meds in the past and had no problems, since it is in your record, but you may want to remind him.

The only way is to talk to him. Give him all your symptoms, what you have taken in the past to help. all the other things you might have done to help this with out pain medicine. Just because we hurt, doesn't mean you are addicted if you need the medication. There are also pain centers here in the US. I am not sure where you are from, but you should start with your regular doctor and see what he can do to help you get through this. I recommend massage therapy, or acupuncture. It has helped so many people.
Good Luck !!

Don't know how to answer this. I hate painkillers and have to be nearly dead to take them. I don't know what DDD is , oh...
probably disk disease..........If you have spinal injections be sure they give them under fluoscope as I had one and it about killed me. The Dr. punctured a nerve sack and let spinal fluid out. I spent the night in the hospital to be sure I was not having a stroke. I thought my head would burst. See someone that specializes in back diseases. We have a non-surgical spine center here.

I have to agree with the previous poster, simply tell the doctor why you want pain medication and see what he has to say.
