No news is good news.
I also wonder what made Mattel apologize?
I think people should focus on how to sort out the problems - quality control and safety measurements of the china products.
Playing dramas in front of cameras, TVs won't make the toys safer or stop the blames. Mattel should tell the public what they can do to improve their product design / quality control / product safety management ..., etc. Or at least employ some consultants and make another press release, a positive one!

mattel has been in china for over 25 years
they are one of the pioneers to take advantage of the cheap labor cost in China
companies like mattel squeeze every penny out of Chinese manufacturers. and re-calling the toys and blame it on the Chinese.
but don't get me wrong, both are responsible, but this specific manufacturer's owner committed suicide when mattel slapped him with a multi-million dollar lawsuit for the re-called toys.
all mattel had to do was state a "strange" apology
while the manufacturer's family is mourning for his unfair death.
but please be reminded that throughout this whole incident and 25 years before it. mattel has been capitalizing non-stop on the low cost Chinese products and didn't complain when the extra billions were showing up in their accounts. now they don't even want to pay for the low cost Chinese labor and just make wrongful accusations so they dont have to pay for the products that they designed incorrectly.

What about them? Did Mattel asked them to add more lead in the paint? Wrong in Mattel do not mean China's factory's wrong is not important.

What happened is that we are not fooled by the fact that the corrupt and dictatorial Chinese government has been able to coerce Mattel into making this absurd and phoney "apology" by threatening to abruptly cancel all its contracts with Chinese companies, halting shipments of products already bought and paid for, and otherwise disrupting their business immediately before the beginning of the Christmas toy selling season.
Faced with financial ruin, the Mattel company had no choice but to say whatever words the Communist regime demanded it say.
Only in China would anyone be so naive or so desparate to save face that they would be foolish enough to try to convince anyone that this so called apology is anything more than the result of Chinese government extortion and threats.
In short, we have been convinced, more than ever, of the ugly, self interested, cynical, corrupt, brutality of the communist regime.
EDIT: onegoodman
Unless you are over the age of 60 I was in China before you were. I'm an overseas Chinese these days and glad of the overseas part. So next time keep your silly remarks to yourself when you don't know what you are talking about.

What about Fisher-Price and whoever makes Thomas Trains?
Something is fishy to me about this "apology" - I think Mattel was told by China that they either apologize or they lose access to cheap labor and lose leases on their factories.

The apology is ridiculous. Maybe the best way is for American companies to move out of China. There are many other places... Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Philippines, etc.

Anyone with the sense that god gave to tomato ketchup knew all along that it was the fault of the corporations in the US and not China. The corporations outsourced the jobs, are responsible for the imports, and were so busy counting their money that they didn't do their jobs.

@Asker, China haters don't really care about the safety of our children or the so called human rights. They just want China to look bad....how pathetic is that?
@Rillifane: you are just another ignorant American, period. Go to China and see it yourself. It's not the commie country you saw in your childhood movies.
