At .40, the individual is usually hospitalized, and in serious condition. No one would live long enough to see 1.0

If you are over .30 and happen to go to the ER. They have to keep you by law since are very likely to have acute alcohol poisoning. The highest I saw saw was .354. Th guy was actually proud of it later. He and another guy had kinda a competition. They were both dead within one year of each other so I guess you could say they tied for the win.
.10 used to be considered drunk in most states. Now more states are going with the lesser amount of .08. I'd guess that for the average person, this would mean about 4 drinks in an hour and probably less drinks than that for many.

"1.0 means that an estimated 100% of the person's blood is alcohol -- meaning that the person probably died of alcohol poisoning a while back."
No, 1.0 is 1%. And a 1.0 is 2 or 3 times higher than a lethal dose, so the guy would have been dead long before he reached that point.

well everyone on here knows you meant .10 and is just giving you a hard time.. The legal limit is .08 so if you get a .10 you'd get arrested for a DUI. If it's your first DUI then you lose your license for 90 days (in CT) and do 10 classes on drugs and alcohol and you're on probation for a year. Then if you get a second DUI you have either 2 days in jail or 100 hrs. of community service and you lose your license for a year and are on probation for 18 months. If you get a third one you lose your license for LIFE after you spend a few months in jail. This is as of 11/1/06. The laws might have gotten stricter since then.....

When a field breathalyzer or alcolizer reaches 1.0???? Most units read 0.08 through 0.50. I have never heard of a unit registering 1.0. The majority of DUI's are between 0.08 and 0.24. I have occasionally seen some higher with hard core alcoholics. I don't think you could get one that high and still be standing.

In most states, you are considered drunk at .1. At .4, you are usually considered to have alcohol poisoning.
At 1.0, you would be dead. This would represent an even proportion of blood and alcohol in your system.
It would NOT represent that you had NO blood left in your system, as some people think. The Breathalizer measure the PROPORTION of alcohol to blood. So, in the case of a .1, it means that you have .1 milliliters of alcohol for every milliliter of blood. At 1.0, you would have a milliliter of alcohol in your system for every milliliter of blood.

Your funeral will be provided by your family or the state if you have no family. At 1.0 you will be dead.
Now at .10 that is the percent of alcohol in your blood. Or 1 tenth of 1 percent of your blood.
The greatest amount I have seen was a chronic alcoholic at .63. If I was .63 (I drink only on rare occasions) I would at least be in a coma.

The deal for most folks is over when the breathalizer hits 1.0. They're passed out or dead. (Unlike Coragyph thinks, it means that a person's Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) is estimated to be 1%, which is still enough to cause acute alchol poisoning) It's not alway accurate though, since it's only estimating BAC based on alcohol on the person's breath.
If you meant .01- that's a different story.

At that point you are legally intoxicated ("drunk") - probably considered to have life threatening alcohol poisoning and at risk for SERIOUS health consequences. Most states have a maximum allowable of 0.08% - unless you have a commercial drivers license in which case you are only allowed to "blow" a .04% level.
