The "sin" of masturbation is not biblical. But who would follow the bible anyway? But it is a sin for buddhist monks and muslims. Catholic priests must be chaste.
The sex drive is natural and so is a hand shandy etc.
Demonisation of the flesh, and pleasure, is a twisted and desperate attempt to overcome the natural world around us. Think of it as like a primitive attempt at science. Naughty cause bring caveman bad effect. Caveman want no storm, therefore he hand shandy not. No no big time.
Sorry to all of the clear thinking cavemen I have slandered, but you can see where I'm coming from.

I am Pagan by religion, and in our tradition, "All acts of love and pleasure are the gifts of the Goddess." So with that, I don't believe it's a sin.....I believe in go for it for the sake of pleasure as well as stress relief and so many other good reasons. It is the fundamental folks that have labeled any thing other than missonary between man and wife evil... Get a clue folks!!!

For once I totally agree with The Reverend Soleil. Right on.
I'd like to add that I'm Jewish, and that is a prohibition meant ONLY for Jewish males, and no one else. To "spill seed" is taken to mean the actual murder of future generations of Jews, and this is why it is prohibited for Jewish males.
This law NEVER applied to non-Jews; there were NEVER any punishments or penalties for non-Jews regarding this law.
Christians turn sex into a sin, when in fact the sexual part of male masturbation wasn't even the sin in the first place, it was the SPILLING OF SEED, the murder of future generations of Jews that would have otherwise been born, that was the actual sin involved.
This law never even applied to Jewish FEMALES, because females have no "seed" to spill.
Christians need to get the hell out of our holy book and mind their own business. Just look at what they do to it, how they twist it and pervert it. And in turn, because it's not meant for them, they suppress themselves needlessly and hate themselves while doing it -- and like The Reverend Soleil said, they then turn that hatred outwards on the world. Ugh.

If I remember my schooling correctly...it had something to do with how masturbation is a form of self love. Which is selfish and can lead to other things? I dunno. Something about nun teaching sex ed was a little weird. lol I think it had to also do with the only real love exist between a man and woman. Plus, a christian person is not to want. *shrugs*
I have long since then gone onto other beliefs. lol

In the new testament Jesus never said that was a sin..
and people think it is a sin to look at a women with desire, is a sin...they are wrong..
Jesus said... if you look at a women to [ lust after her ] = go after, not just emotion..
Then you have committed adultery [ big, no, no a married woman ]
in your heart already = [ heart also means your course of action ] which is what God is really concerned with, your actual deed, actions, not desires or emotions..
So Jesus said if you look at a women
To lust [ after ] her
you have committed adultery [ married woman ]
in [ your course of action ] your heart already
And this is very true..
and another is: Jacob told his son to have sex with his dead brothers wife to have children by her, and he did not follow through..
Now Jacob is a prophet and God talks through prophets, his son knows the laws of the land a deliberately would not do it.
What that was all about I will never know, however it had nothing to do with masturbation, in the O.T. they had plenty of women to have sex with, to release themselves..
And you must remember a society in the old days had to have as many babies as they could for wars, farming and building....ect. ect.

Lack of Big O's is definitely a cause for lots of forms of temporary insanity, mood swings, crankiness and general idiotic behavior in public places when confronted with alcohol and the opposite sex.
These forms of congestion can even lead to a severe case of the blues.
