only those who are married in the temple (or who have taken out their own endowments in the temple) wear temple clothing.
Latter-day Saints wear religious clothing. But members of other faiths — typically those involved in permanent pastoral ministries or religious services — usually wear religious garments as outer ceremonial vestments or symbols of recognition. In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, garments are worn beneath street clothing as a personal and private reminder of commitments to God.

This is getting so old!!!! Yet another person obsessed with my underwear!!! Do I ask you what kind of underwear you wear? Do I ask you if your underwear is magic? Do I care what you wear under your clothing? Why does it matter? Does it effect you or your life at all?? I betting the answer to most of these questions is no.
To us, they are sacred. They aren't a subject of casual conversation, and they certainly aren't for people to look at. I don't care what you wear under your clothes. If it was sacred to you, would you want someone making fun of it?
Would you make fun of a priests robes, or a nuns habit, or a Jewish man's ya-makha? I don't think so, so how about not making fun of our sacred things?
Here is a site that might help you to understand this more.

This is straigh off the LDS website (the first link provided)
"Like members of many religious faiths, Latter-day Saints wear religious clothing.
Garments are considered sacred by Church members and are not regarded as a topic for casual conversation. "

My underwear is no more magic than yours. This question gets asked at least once or twice a week. Here's the deal. Those of us who have made covenants in the temple do wear undergarments that are symbolic, not magic. They remind us of the covenants we have made with God, and therein lies the protection.
Here is a link to another question like this one.

First of all, we don't call it nor consider it "magic underwear", so would you quit the whole mocking attitude. Would it be so inconsiderate and immature to mock Jews or Muslims for what they wear to symbolize their faith and commitment to God? Yes, of course, and you would be labled a bigot. But that is what you are doing with your mocking of temple garments.
It's getting very old and very offensive.
So the answer to your question is----Mormons wear temple garments as a symbol of their faith and commitment to living and devoting their lives to God. That's all.
Mormons start wearing the garments once they are endowed in the temple, but this can happen for reasons other than marriage. I am single and I was endowed 16 years ago before I left on my mission.
Hope this answered your question, and please be more respectful to what others hold sacred. If was not you intent to mock--sorry for sounding too strong. It's irritating to see this whole mocking of Mormons OK, while not of other religious group. Blatent hypocrisy.

I really don't care if I sound impolite or not!
You people and your comments about the LDS faith are getting old! YOU are not only rude, and ignorant, but disrespectful as well!
Why don't you people practice what you preach? You claim that you are following the teachings of Christ? Well I never heard of Him making fun of other people!
Each and everyone of you should be ashamed of yourselves, what kind of people are you?
They are sure, and positive about what they believe! Can you say the same thing, and show them YOUR Church. and what you believe?
Well? We're waiting!
If you are really interested in knowing what the LDS believe? Go to lds.org!

Why do Jews wear yarmulkes and prayer shawls?
They are SACRED, they have special meaning to us.
