You'll find that living on your own is very expensive and if your father is letting the two of you use a room, his water, cable, electricity, food, laundry units (washer & dryer), etc..for $400. Even if you are renting out a room in an apartment just by yourself, you can easily have to pay that amount or more, but for two people? If you are worried about getting shafted, talk to your dad about it but I dont think you are.

300-400 is a reasonable amount normally for an efficiency apartment and I find that is perfectly reasonable when you are an adult living with your parents. If you don't like what your parents are charging, then you need to be the adult you are and get a place of your own and you will find that you have it really nice living with your parents.

Your dad can pretty much charge you whatever he wants. $400 seems reasonable. Why don't you two move out and get a place of your own? Apartments aren't that expensive.

You have good deal going, you are under his roof. If you don't like it then move out.

right before we were to be married, we had a house fire and had to move in with my folks for a few months. we didn't have to pay anything. i realize we were lucky but, your dad is way over charging.
