If our souls were implanted while we were inside the womb, why can't we remember our own births?
Is memory a product solely of the brain? If so, will we have memories post-death?
((This is a repost, honestly, I didn't understand the answers last time))

Most psychological studies suggest that memory is impossible before language.

Because your brain wasn't finished developing.

I have often wondered the same thing. I guess it's because the brain isn't done developing. So memories must be connected to the brain only, not the soul? I wish I really did know the answer to this question....

Because as a baby-infant out brains were not fully developed -Sure we had memory, its how we would know our mom and dad by their look and scent and sound, but not complicared memory systems like we do now. That takes time to develop and is usually at about 3-5 years of age.

My understanding, from college psych classes, is we don't remember these things because we have yet to build a frame of reference in our minds for them. Once we can label things in our mind, then we start having memories. I know my first memory comes form when I was around 18 months old, and having a fear of the dark - sleeping in my playpen in my grandparents livingroom, and the patterns of the leaves and streetlight on the ceiling scaring me. And me making a fuss the next evening until they closed the curtains- but I couldn't vocalize my fear clearly.
Is it an aspect of the soul? Don't know.
Will we have memories post death? Again, I don't know. But I was witness to someone's dying process this year, and she seemed to regress through her memories, vocalizing certain events as she remembered them, perhaps seeking assurance that everything was all right.
Memory impossible before language? Then why can small children tell you about events that happened to them prior to to their ability to speak?
I know I have pre language memories - I just gave you one.

The human brain takes time to develop. The hardwiring of growing neurons takes years. And one of the last set of connections to be made is that from short-term memory to long-term memory.
We used to call it the age of reason when a child made it to 7. Now we know WHY it was called that. That's about the age you are when those neuronic connections are finally all made and connected.

The brain is not fully developed at that age. As to the soul portion of your question, I don't believe the bible teaches that there is a soul apart from the physical body although some will disagree.

It's called infanitle amnesia....memories are the results of residue left over when neurons are fired....when you are an infant, your neurons are still connecting and growing into the proper patterns are have yet to become functional enough to leave a stable "memory trace".

I sometimes think I do remember. I remember it being all black. Then suddenly I saw light. Then all I can remember from after that is from the age of 5 or 6.
This is a serious answer.

Your brain is what records memories, and your brain is not developed enough at birth to do much recording.

Our brains had not yet developed it's organic storage bin. The materials and organization necessary to store environmental stimuli takes a few years to get completely "wired".

You are asking why your soul was brainless? Or why your brain had not already been programmed? Not sure I understand your question.
