I personally find it appaling for them to do this since the officer was killed by an illegal. What's your opinion?
Vigil for slain officer attended by undocumented immigrants

Fearing a backlash against the Latino community, recent immigrant Sandra Arizmendiz clutched a lit candle in one hand and passed out black ribbons with another at candlelit vigil for slain officer Nick Erfle Tuesday night.
Erfle, a 33-year old, eight-year police veteran, was shot and killed by 22-year old Erik Jovani Martinez, an undocumented immigrant, Tuesday morning.
"We want to remind all of Arizona and the nation that this crime had nothing to do with the legal status of that person, but rather his criminal intentions," said Phoenix resident and CEO of Immigrants Without Borders Elias Bermudez.
About 40 members of the Latino community came to the ceremony and laid Virgin de Guadalupe candles, flowers and hand written notes on top of a makeshift memorial near Thomas Road and Pinchot Avenue were Erfle was killed.
"This is not for resistance, this is for humanity," Arizmendiz said.
Tuesday morning Arizmendiz called into the radio show The Voice of the Immigrant hosted by Bermudez, and asked Latinos and undocumented immigrants to attend the evening's vigil in support of Erfle's family.
"We are here to show that we do not agree with this criminal activity . . . and to send a message to parents to talk to their kids," said Chilean immigrant and Mesa resident Magdalena Schwartz.
"Undocumented children in schools and colleges have hopes and dreams too. We can prevent this kind of crime if we talk to our kids especially when they are in Junior High . . . remind yourself why you brought them here to this country."

Nowhere did I say anything about race people. I said I find it appaling that illegals would attend knowing he was killed by an illegal and to top it off, they're there for their own selfish reason, they could care less that the officer died.

Once again, I never mentioned race here. The only ones who have are the newspaper, the latino group themselves and a few of the posters who answered this. Surely you posters aren't implying that only one race is illegal? That would make YOU racist.

Seems a bit self serving doesn't it-
The part about fearing a backlash- now that's some motivation to show some respect to law enforcement.
Too bad that concept of respecting law enforcement doesn't apply to immigration enforcement officers or immigration law.

I do not believe that all undocumented immigrants should be held responsible for this death but, I do believe that all illegals should be sent back and made to go about coming into this country legally. It is time we enforced our laws, sealed our borders and discontinued supporting the hundreds of thousands of illegals that are here. We are paying for care for these people when we can't afford to get the same services for ourselves. It is insane. America is the dumping ground for all the criminals that the Mexican government does not want. We are paying a very high price in many areas. Our border guards, trying to do their job, are imprisoned senselessly for trying to do the right thing. This officer was slain and it is totally unacceptable. We need to do more than we are doing. This Country is falling fast and there will be no turning back if we don't do something right now. Let's not change our laws that are for our own protection to allow these people to continue to break the law. An illegal immigrant is a law breaker. I don't blame them for wanting to come here but, I don't want to support them when they are here illegally. Now the Dems want to give drivers licenses to illegals, social security after only 18 months here, full medical coverage and college tuition, special education to help the children of immigrants catch up to the American children and countless more services. Are we out of our minds to allow this??????????

No, one of the most inappropriate things that illegal immigrants could do is to think that illegal immigrants deserve a chance at the American dream. Why should people who came into America illegally have a chance to enjoy the freedoms of this country? It's a good thing that illegal immigrants are distancing themselves from a cop killer.
This crime wouldn't have happened if Arizona didn't have any sanctuary policies for illegal immigrants. We should deport criminal illegal immigrants before they can hurt or kill American citizens.

It's kind of low for them to exploit the funeral of a police officer this way. Especially one who was murdered.
Doesn't matter if it's illegals or some other group who does it. But yeah, it's worse if it's illegals. Think about it: they are ILLEGAL, and he was a police officer, sworn to uphold the LAW. Seems obvious to me.
P.S.
To MM...nope. No one here is exploiting the death of the police officer. They are pointing out a news story, and not to fulfill any agenda. They are asking a question.
Mickey's not being hypocritical, nor am I or any of the others here with similar beliefs about this. But if it brings more joy to someone's life to call us hypocrites, I won't object too much. It would probably be more appropriate to pity you.

You're TROLLING~!
... it's always the white guy. Let's go to the tote board:
* Who gave us the black plague? A white guy.
* Who invented PBC, PVC, PBB, and a host of chemicals that are killing us? White guys.
* Who has started every war America has been in? White men.
* Who is responsible for the programming on FOX? White men.
* Who invented the punch card ballot? A white man.
* Whose idea was it to pollute the world with the internal combustion engine? Whitey, that's who.
* The Holocaust? That guy really gave white people a bad name (that's why we prefer to call him a Nazi and his little helpers Germans).
* The genocide of Native Americans? White man.
* Slavery? Whitey!
* So far in 2001, American companies have laid off over 700,000 people. Who ordered the layoffs? White CEOs.
* Who keeps bumping me off the Internet? Some friggin' white guy
You name the problem, the disease, the human suffering, or the abject misery visited upon millions, and I'll bet you ten bucks I can put a white face on it faster than you can name the members of 'N Sync.

No. I don't find it inappropriate. There are plenty of police officer's, that are killed by legal US Citizen's. But, the time to talk to your kids about right and wrong starts WAY before Junior High! I was about to post and realized... If the parents of illegals start engaging in conversations of right and wrong, what do they do when their children start asking about their legal status? I would like to get an ear in on that exchange.

For the illegal immigrants who murdered a police officer yes. For the illegal immigrants that is showing sympathy, no. One of the problem is that illegal immigrants in their protest do not show that they are a productive part of our society. THis is one of the rare times that I actually see them doing something constructive and go out of the way to state we are not trying to disrupt the AMerican Society. Previous shows that I have seen states that they hate America, and perform outrages acts agaisnt us. It's stupid that these immigrant rights group advocate and defend hostile acts towards our people. Hate does not gain our sympathy. The act of going in mass to show sympathy to our law enforcement, helps reduce the outrage of the lesser of thier kind. Of course a better show would be for them to police their community and help us get rid of other criminals in their group like drug runners and gang members. Anonymous phone calls is a good way for them to help.
Edit:>>> Mickey, do you feel the love from this place today??

I seriously don't get what this guy being an illegal immigrant has to do with anything. Yes, he made a bad choice, but that doesn't make illegal immigrants bad people.

I think that it is appropriate to attend a vigil for a police officer who was murdered regardless of your birthplace or nationality or immigration status.
However, it is inappropriate to use the tragic death of another person to forward your political agenda particularly if your presence detracts from the ability of his family and friends to grieve.
May his soul dwell in the house of god forever. Amen.

Lori Helene Berenson (born November 13, 1969) is a U.S. citizen currently serving a 20-year prison term in Peru for unlawful collaboration with terrorists, specifically the Túpac Amaru Revolutionary Movement, an organization which had committed numerous acts of terrorists, killing, kidnapping, torture, disappearances and attacks in attempting to overthrow the government of Peru. This terrorist group killed more than 5,000 persons. She has been imprisoned since 1995.
In Spanish-language news reports and her trial documents, because of Spanish naming customs, Berenson is often referred to as Lori Berenson Mejía or Lori Berenson Kobeloff.
