Can I answer as an LDS Dad? (I know you're referring to a specific Y!A person)
I am, and I'm going to try to teach my children (don't have any yet, but one is on the way, yeah!) to discern for themselves. But I will teach them different ways to do so, both through study and through prayer. I believe it takes both to truly understand spiritual things.

Yes - I actually am not a mom YET, in another 4 months I will be though! - and yes, I am concerned about my child and children knowing right from wrong, good from evil, truth from untruth. We believe we have a solemn responsibility, not only as mothers but as parents, to raise our children in love, respect and the gospel. We believe we are accountable for teaching our children the gospel, what they choose is obviously up to them, but we are taught that we must do all we can to be examples to them and rear them in the truth - you can read "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" if you want to know more about our family responsibilities...
It is a scary thought to me to bring a child into the world where there is so much yucky stuff...but it is also a great comfort to me to know that I can be a part of my Heavenly Father's plan to bring His children to the earth and to teach them the gospel.
I will not be a perfect mother. My husband will not be a perfect father. We will struggle, our children may cause us grief - but we know in the end there is eternal joy waiting for us all if we will live the gospel!

As an LDS mom I am concerned with keeping my children safe and cared for. I am concerned with spending time with them and playing and teaching them. I want them to have a respect for knowledge, and expect them to have a personal relationsdhip with God - however they may choose to interpret it. I hope they learn from me to be honest, brave, and trustworthy.

As an atheist Dad, I am more concerned about you keeping your fictional mythology away from my children and their public school.

Mormons beleive that some of them will become Gods themselves
The bible teaches us that the devil told adam and eve if they eat from the tree of knowledge that they will become God's themsleves
Surely um...there's a dangerous coincidence here

If they're LDS, they already have problems separating fact from fiction.
