At what age should children see a dentist/optomitrist for a general evaluation? And does anyone know how old a child must be to get an allergy test done??

I asked our dentist and he suggested the following: When she is nearly 2 bring her to your appointments we will slowly introduce her to what happens at the dentist. Initially they did not have their own appointment. He said at your next appointment we will give her a turn in the chair, just before you leave. She can lay on you whilst you are in the chair and we will just play a game of lets look in mummy's mouth, now it is your turn. If she feels comfortable she can have a turn in the chair by herself. To begin with it was just familiarisation. The dentist would praise her for opening her mouth wide. Then when we left he would give her a sticker or a new toothbrush.
When they felt comfortable being in the chair solo they would progress to other things - like counting her teeth. For an optometrist make sure you have a general evaluation before children start school. Our family doctor told us all children should see an optometrist before they start school. Not sure about allergy tests - but you could speak to your doctor about this. If there is no family history and if the child has not had any reactions to foods, products etc then perhaps there will be no need for one. Ask the doctor for signs of allergies if you are really worried.

generally around 3 is the best time to get a kid used to going to the dentist, as for an allergy test, only a Doctor can determine when and if your child needs one.

Some recommendations are to see a dentist at 2, but at least where I live, most dentists won't see kids until 3 unless there's a problem (too hard to make them keep their mouth open before that -- plus they're probably afraid of being bitten!).

See a dentist by 2, sooner if you have any concerns. Baby teeth can get cavities easily, so brush 2 times a day.

Your child should have a basic eye exam from a pediatrician by 2-3, its hard to test before that. If there are any concerns he can refer you to an eye Dr.
