I'm thinking of making a chowder of some sort served in bread bowls (just me and the bf). What else should I serve with it? I have three hours to grocery shop, make the soup, and eat before I have to go to my second job!

A salad is always good with soup or maybe some veggies and dip.

save it for saturday. There is the farmers market on sunset. there is an awesome bread guy there. Get some really fresh bread and make a nice chowder it'l be cold tomorrow night.
Chowder and salad dont seem to go too well. It all depends on the chowder too.

I found the following:
Green Beans with Tomatoes and Feta
Next time you're looking for an impressive side dish, choose this--it's simply delicious!

Prep Time:20 min
Start to Finish:20 min
Makes:8 servings (2/3 cup each)

Ingredients
frozen organic French-cut green beans with toasted almonds
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 can (14.5 oz) Muir Glen® organic diced tomatoes, undrained
1 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano leaves or 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper, if desired
1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese

Preparation Directions
1. Cook beans as directed on boxes, reserving almonds; drain.
2. Meanwhile, in 10-inch skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Cook onion and garlic in oil 3 to 4 minutes, stirring frequently, until onion is crisp-tender. Stir in tomatoes, oregano and red pepper. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat; simmer uncovered about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and most of liquid is evaporated.
3. Spoon drained beans onto serving platter; top with tomato mixture. Sprinkle with cheese and reserved almonds.

Since you are going to put it in bread bowls, I'd stay away from another bread item to go with it. Obviously, supply crackers (oyster crackers are classic with chowder.) You could do a really nice salad, or if you want to go with something more hearty but still light, some veggies like celery, carrot, and the like that are great raw with a little dip that you can make easily with sour cream and some dip mix like ranch or french onion soup mix. Something like that will also add some crunch to the meal.

A tossed salad.

A Cesar salad.

A seven layer salad (has vegetables).

(by the way, instead of cooking the soup from scratch, buy Campbell's New England Clam Chowder in the bowl containers. DELICIOUS.)

You could also make a big sandwich with lots of shaved meats on it, serve one half a sandwich per person. Your supermarket will have shaved meats in little containers found in the fridge sections. We like the Hillshire Farms the best.
OR you can get the deli to shave meats for you.

Soup in breadbowls sounds like a good meal to me. It should be filling enough that you don't need anything to go with it.

Salad, and some sort of fruity dessert like sherbet, or a fruit pie. (NOT creamy).
