Most of the city names in the Bible are accurate.
Other than that...not really.

I would say I'm agnostic and not atheist (some days I believe there HAS to be a god and some days I think there can't be; most days I just have no idea). But, I do believe that Jesus was a real person, that most of the names in the bible are real, etc. I don't believe that he walked on water, turned water to wine, that Mary was a virgin (I think she was too young and unmarried and had to stick to that story so she wouldn't be stoned to death), etc etc. Overall I just don't know! But yes, I do believe that these were real people (I know a lot of people dont' believe even that.)

Many of the stories in the Old Testament have been definitively linked by researchers to folklore that has been circulating around the middle east before Abraham's (supposed) lifetime. Example: Noah's flood, which no genuine and educated person can believe actually happened.
So the stories in the Bible are interesting and many are "true" in the sense that they have long been circulating in Middle Eastern culture. Sort of like our Santa Claus story. It's fun, and an important part of our culture.

I think "treat others as you would want to be treated" by Jesus is a nice touch and good general guide. Confucius also came up with the same phrase, centuries before. There are some aspects of morality that seem universal.
And it's obviously important to study all religious documents as they influenced cultural movements for centuries after. How will you understand a Michelangelo or a triptych by Jan van Eyck without studying the doctrine and environment that influenced the commissioned works of this sort?
As for the supernatural, no. I don't believe in things without evidence, otherwise I would have to put Krishna and Zeus on equal footing with the biblical god, and I oppose many aspects of religion and their ancient books' tendencies to support violence and government tyranny.

There are many nice thoughts in it. It's just that some Christians twist them to their own purposes.
The 10 Commandments came from the Ancient Egyptians 'Book Of The Dead'.
The Golden Rule came from others, including Buddha.

I've never read the Bible - so I can't say. Probably not though. I mean, the Bible has that ridiculous Ark story and says that the world is 6,000 years old and that pi = 3. Of what I've seen of it, the Bible has no credibility to it.

As I don't believe in God, I do not believe the Bible is anything more than a book of parables. It has no merit to me other than literary. I do believe you should be a good person, but not because you fear punishment if you are not.

I definitely believe in Jesus! There are other historic documents that prove this other than the bible. What I don't believe is how the bible depicts Jesus's teachings. I don't think Jesus taught of a literal heaven and hell. I believe he taught that once you had reached 'Christ consciousness' you would no longer be in 'hell' (going through the daily struggles of life because you would no longer have attachment issues). The Buddhists teach similar views. Good luck with your journey. Blessings...

I believe that Jesus was a real person. A lot of the moral "guidelines" in the Bible are good. But they are all up for interpretation and I do NOT like the way most religous zealots interpet them.

In my opinion, most of the stuff in the bible is historic fiction. Based on fact, but has been so distorted through oral history and translation that it's no longer accurate. And I do believe in God.

Large areas of the world were flooded at the end of the last Ice Age - this may be the founding of the Flood Story. But the whole world wasn't flooded and there were many more than two survivors of every species.
