Guilt is one of the most destructive forces in the world, and the main tool of organized religion.

Right now I do not go to church, and do not beat myself up about it. I know that when I can in the future I will and I can hardly wait, but for now I am coming out of a life situation that still needs a resolution. God knows I am church all the time anyway. A suggestion - don't let guilt do a number on you. If God is in you all the time (rather, you have acknowledged God as infinite), then everything will fall into place at the proper time.

No, I have fun when I go to church. The last time I went there was a reading from the book of Isaiah that said the circumcised were the same as the uncircumcised. We couldn't stop our giggling- this was actually an issue in the Bible? Then there was the time I nearly started a bonfire by trying to light 3 candles at once. I got the nickname "sparky" for that one. Humor aside, there are also the times that I pray seriously - going to church helps with that, too.
After church, I get social and go out to lunch with other churchgoers. If you go to a cool church, you will like going and go regularly.

Just because you don't go to church, doesn't mean that you aren't as spiritual or good as someone who does. I know many people who go to church who do some very un-Christian-like things, and I also know people who believe in god but don't go to church who are much better people and still live good lives. You don't need to go to church just to be good and for god to still love you, etc.

My mother was forced to go to church every Sunday until she turned 18. She still believes in god but refuses to enter a church and doesn't agree with organized religion. The church forces people to believe that church is the only way to get into god's good graces, but if there really is a god then I just can't believe that's truly how he feels!

I used to be a serious church goer also. And went to a Christian camp every summer. I was saved there when I was 16. I'm now 62 and haven't gone to church in about 20 years and no, I don't feel guilty. God lives in my heart and that's all that matters to me.

No! I did go to church a lot when I was a kid and attended youth groups as a teen. My parents made me go to the youth groups because it was a place to hang out with friends, so we were not on the street hanging out. Going to retreats and camps were great because it helped me when I had real bad self esteem with myself. I'm not a very religious person now as an adult, but I am very spiritual in many ways. I believe in a higher power and also believe everybody has the right to their own religion, weather they attend church or not.

Hi Juju.

I am sure once you return to the church of your choice you'll be glad that you did. Remember that the Church is not a country club for perfect Christians. We are all sinners and have made a bunch of mistakes in our life. Only Christ forgives and will forgive as we renew our lives to him.

JUJU, Jesus loves you.

Take care.

Churches are full of people that need to get better. I'm one of them. There is a lot of uncomfortable risk in going to church. We don't want to get caught up in dogma and legalism. The church has plenty of that. I go because I know that God wants us to fellowship with other believers. So...go to church. I understand your feelings.

Not in the least. I did however feel guilty going to church just on holidays (Christmas and Easter) and so stopped doing that long ago.

I was raised in the Catholic church. We were taught that if you do not go to church on sunday and religious holidays, that was considered a mortal sin. The only way to absolve that sin was to goto confession. So you bet your **** I feel guilty when I don't go to church.
