It's not just a religious thing I think even the non-religious will agree that women should all be this way:
A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
She gets up while it is still dark;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her servant girls.
She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers

She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
"Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all."

Attention all atheists:
Keep in mind that even SATAN believes in God. So, where does that leave you?

I actually do agree with this, although I think a lot of fundamentalists have taken it WAY too literally. I don't think it should mean women should serve their husbands without being equally served BY their husbands. I don't think it should mean that women should sew and cook all hours of the day and night. I simply think it means women should be responsible, take an active role in family life, and at the risk of sounding cheesy - bring honor to the family. From an atheist perspective, good values are NOT limited to religion. A person can be of strong moral fiber and character without having the Bible order them to do so. From a feminist perspective, I think ALL people should behave in this active and responsible manner.

Women are far more than that parable. I strive to be a woman on my own terms, and teach my daughter the same.
I am not merely a vessel to bear children and clean houses. Women are great, strong people with intelligent minds and an unparalled capacity for caring. Merely playing a part to bring honor to a husband would be a lackluster role compared to that.

This description, if you read it carefully, has more to do with fulfilling the particular idiocyncratic pleasures and personal opinions of the individual she married rather than about living up to her potential as a good person. In other words, it measures the worth of the woman by what her husband thinks of her, which makes it archaic sexist drivel.

Well behaved women seldom make history.
I do not own servant girls.
And I do not toil away at manual labor for twenty hours to provide for a man. Some women in the third world have to do that.
LaHoma K: Atheists do not believe in gods. That includes supernatural figures like satan. Get a clue.

She is a spouse from God: examine, PROVERB 19:14 -domicile and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent spouse is from the LORD. a real christian lady and guy is attentive to the doctrine for husband and spouse. Ephesians 5:23 - better halves, positioned up yourselves unto your guy or woman husbands, as unto the Lord: examine as much as 5:25 So in case you desire a sturdy companion ask from God"

And she does it all wearing 6-inch high heels and a great big toothy smile with a martini in her hand that isn't vacuuming ready for her husband as he comes in the door.

I think the wife this passage is refering to had several servants. This passage has created unrealistic expectations from men of their wives, and wives of themselves.
BTW: Why would all women strive to this? What if she is single? Should she strive to go against her purpose if God wants her single? How do you know what God has in store for any woman?
Stop finger wagging- you are turning people away from our Lord Jesus.

I'm not an atheist but I can tell I think this is ridiculous. These are words of MEN that wanted women to serve them and nothing more. I say BS! I'm a human and I'll not be a slave to anyone.

Yep...lets set the civil rights movement back a few decades! Awesome! I love it when my women do nothing other than caring for the family and being free labor for us-there is nothing sexier. Well..one thing--when I back hand her for having her own opinions.
If that is what the woman wants then thats fine; but forcing her into servitude for religious reasons is absurd.
