Consider that most of us are no longer toiling in the fields so as to feed ourselves. We no longer use horses to pull a plow, instead internal combustion engine driven tractors are in use. The I/C engine has allowed us to become very efficient in food production.

The efficiency in food production allowed us to move from an agricultural based society into a technological based one. People were able to move into cities and spend their time not toiling in a field but working in factory. Less time spent in the field allowed people more time to think and experiment ,ultimately leading to new products. Technology breeds technology, one discovery is the foundation of another.

In addition early transportation was horse drawn wagon, rail systems only allow a regional delivery you still need a local distribution. The use of trucks allowed goods to be brought to market ,faster, cheaper and further away thus expanding the markets. This meant that rail system deliveries did not have to make as many stops (within the range of horse drawn wagons) and could make fewer and more efficient deliveries to rail yard where truck would then distribute the goods locally. This increased the efficiency of rail systems and further reduced time to market and costs.

So I guess that if it weren't for the internal combustion engine you'd have a 1 or 2 horse powered vehicle(literally). The citys would not be able to support the large populations as they do now. And vehicle emmissions (horse crap)in the city
would be far more bothersome.

Which car? The electric car or the internal combustion car?

The internal combustion car has always been a scam that has hindrered advancement in technology. It was something that the oilcompanies saw as a potential market for that oil waste by product they called gasoline. It was the oil industry that made the car industry not the other way around. Edisons electric car was once the fastest vehicle in the world but without multinational companies pumping millions into its development the electric car was put in a closet. Even today oilcompanies hinder the development of the electric car for the next phase of the scam: the hydrogen car.

Imagine instead where we would be if the electric car had enjoyed the same benefits in research and development as the gas car. Cars would still go the same distance as the cars we do have and they would be able to do the same things. Only the world wouldn´t be as dependent on the middle east.

car invention opened new sceinces form man
* more studies in dynamics and penumatics to improve the effeciency of the cars
* more studies about safety and looking for new materials to manufacture the cars
* in civil eng roads and pavements designs are new sciences 80 yrs old
* if u think about the indirect effect of cars like construction, communications, things wouldnt happen without cars or autombiles in general

Can you really not imagine for yourself? I don't mean that in a mean way, just sit down and really think about the question.

Think about the benefits cars provide.
Think about products that were developed as the result of cars existence.
