I have only ever had them for breakfast and just with scrambled eggs and baked beans. Not very original I know. I love them but after you have eaten them they keep repeating on you all day, so I only have them rarely.

Best things I know to go with kippers is scrambled eggs and brown bread and butter. Fit for a king.

Happy eating.

How about cold and thinly sliced with a salad of cucumber, romaine lettuce, radishes which is scattered with a few pitted black olive slices, a large drizzle of good olive oil, some decent wine vinegar (red or white), also some good Italian style bread warmed and drizzled in olive oil and a few shavings of garlic or some strong cheese. You could also serve them warmed, mixed with either Dijonnaise (Mayonnaise mixed with smooth Dijon mustard) or Hollandaise sauce on really good brown bread from the baker lightly toasted and spread with melting unsalted butter with maybe a few pickled cucumber spears or cornichons to the side for a bit of sour sweetness.
