I am in no way making my 14 month old go hungry.... but it just seems that no matter what, feeding her is a project. We go through 4 different things to eat before i feel that she is full.... she just doesnt seem to be interested in food.... she tells me she is hungry... by signing... which is great!!!! i dont have a problem knowing when she is hungry... but i have a problem getting her interested in what we are giving her. The only fruit she will eat is banana, which we had to stop because she got constipated.
Whatever we give her, it seems like she likes it at first and takes a couple more bites and then that is it. then we have to give her something else after that, and so on and so on. I'd like for her to sit down and eat an entire meal, instead of playing guessing games with her about what she is going to eat. Does anyone have any suggestions on what their children love to eat so that I can try it with my daughter?

What you are doing sounds about right. At her age she is too young to sit down and eat a full meal. I used to give my son small amounts of several different things and let him decide what to eat. Things like dried fruit (apricots work well) chopped up, or small pieces of hot dog, cereal, peanut butter, etc.
I don't think it is that she is picky-the attention span is just not there.
I had a friend whose daughter would only eat chicken nuggets. She has grown out of it, and your will too. :) Good luck.

First of all you need to give you child a meal and be done with it. If she knows you will try ten different foods per meal, she will turn her nose up every time. If she is hungry-she will eat. My 15 mos old is very picky as well! I try to limit how much milk and juice I give him during the day (so I don't fill him up on that before a meal). I know a few foods that I have seen him eat fairly successfully and others that I KNOW he will not eat. When I feed him dinner and he doesn't eat I just try the same thing again later. He eats it eventually. I don't bother trying to make him eat foods that I know he hates (like noodles and mashed potatoes). But if I have seen him eat it before (like pizza, chicken, G beans, fruit, grilled cheese, turkey dogs, fish, french fries) I know he will eat it when he is hungry. I know it gets frustrating, but your child will not go hungry. I also give my son a pedia-sure everyday. I think it just makes me feel better when I worry that eating chicken nuggets and french fries for every meal will not give him the vitamins he needs.

I've found my son is far more likely to eat something he can feed himself. There's these new Lunchables for toddlers, and my son loves the one with turkey, cheese, and mini Ritz crackers. They're healty and balanced, and sometimes he can eat whole package at once.

My son too has never been a fan of fresh fruit. He has always loved plain mashed potatos, so I started mixing small chunks of peaches or berries in with his potatos. He likes the potatos so much he doesn't mind the fruit!

Stop giving her so many things. It's ok to try different things, but not at the same meal. You are giving her the message that if she doesn't want what you give her, she doesn't have to eat it and you'll give her something else. Fix her her lunch and let her eat it. If she doesn't eat it then don't keep giving her other things, just end the meal. You can try giving her something different at the next meal.

You are going to have to get creative.

Have you tried other fruits and veggies besides the "normal" ones? Try avocado, and other exotic type things. She may like them more than the docile apple/carrot combo.

Also, try letting her feed herself. Most babies prefer it.

If you are truely concerned about her health/she isn't gaining weight...then talk to her doctor.

Ask her what she likes to eat. Make her something new everyday, because kids sometimes get bored of eating the same food every day. Include some junk food in her diet too.

Yes you should! You can feed her unlimited timothy hay, but you have to limit her pellets! She could develop serious problems eating unlimited pellets! So just limit the pellets but not the Hay.
