Rather than each of you feeling the need to 'wow' everyone with something super meaningful and sweet written for each other, look at some sample vows online together, and take bits and pieces that are meaningful to you. Put them together so that you have unique vows, but both say the same thing to each other, without the last minute panic that his vows will be better than yours and vice versa!
You might want to check if you're being married in a church to see if there are requirements for what you can and cannot say.

We went with the traditional vows. Because we didn't have the added work of writing something, plus we are very traditional and so we wanted to have the vows that have been used for years. If you do choose to write your own, you should tell the person what you promise them, etc.
I am sure there are books that can help you.
Also, theknot.com has a few articles about it as well.

If you write you're own vows, you write what you want to promise or hope to acheive with your new spouse. If you have time you can go to Barnes n Noble or Borders Bookstore and just sit down and start reading some of the vows books. There are different sites that can show examples or helps online. My husband and I wrote our own vows and I think they turned out really well!

We wrote our wedding vows when we married in 1983. Most of the stuff I wrote came from Kahlil Gabran's The Prophet. The rest from my heart. Then we used the same vows when we renewed our vows on the occasion of our 20th anniversary--just two short years before he divorced me to marry his pregnant girlfriend.
That's life. I still have the book!

Check with your wedding officiant to see if they have a selection to choose from. Or you can look at sample ceremonies on sites like:
www.getmarriedohio.com/ceremony or
www.figstreet.com/guesthouse/
or google Sample Wedding Ceremonies

I think the classic, traditional ones have been good enough for billions of people and are good enough for you too. Why mess with something?
