no! as atheist we have unique perspective, we are not told what to believe like the christians or the muslims etc etc, we are free to find the answers foer ourselves, I for one do not follow evolution to the letter, it can not explain everything, the fact that I have an open mind gives me the ability to find reasonable and logical answers to my questions, those that cannot be answered, well just because we cant answer them at this stage in our development, doesn't mean a God did it!
free your mind

Belief in the validity of the argument for evolution has nothing t do with being an atheist. Mind you, it's easier to square a godless universe with evolution than with creation. There is no god. Evolution is a theory , arrived at through scientific effort, whichat present explains the likely mechanism for the development of lfe on earth.

The only thing that defines an atheist is a lack of belief in supreme beings. Whatever else you believe is completely up to you. Atheism is not a religion therefore there are no belief "requirements". Atheists are not tied down to believe or disbelieve in anything. This is why we are often called "free thinkers". We have the capability and freedom to think for ourselves without the attachment religious dogma or doctrine.

Looks like you got your answer. A resounding no.
Evolution is just a theory, thats why it's called the theory of evolution.
Religious folk dont have any theories, they 'know' that some big feller in the sky, (probably sitting on a cloud at the time) was very bored looking out at nothing, for millions of years, he had a flash of inspiration !
Why not create a universe, or two? I could do it in 6 days, then have a day off .
Is that a theory????
Given a choice which one would you believe???
God or evolution?
I say 'given a choice' because most of us didnt get a lot of choice in the old days, it was hammered into our heads.
Not now though, some of us actually think. Some of us dont need a 'comforter (a babies dummy) it certainly gives me no comfort to know that millions of folk actually still believe in all that cr*p!
Hope this helps????

Believing in evolution is not the reason I am athiest.
And I am not, "tied down" to believing.
But I choose to believe until the day that science advances to the point that they come up with better technology and uncover more truth.

Absolutely not, you can believe the moon is made of cheese if you like. There are many theories like evolution around, like aliens coming to earth etc. It's up to you, of course like evolution it doesn't necessary mean it scientific fact, it could like evolution, just be escapism.

That makes as much sense as asking "Do being an athiest you have to be tied down to believing in gravity?"
Consider:
* Evolution is every much a fact as the theory of gravity.
* Over 99.8% of scientists in relevant field accept evolution.
* There are no alternative scientific theories.
* There is a huge amount of evidence in support of evolution...
* And zero evidence against it.
* The 'discussion' is actually educated people trying to educate others.
* The more intelligent a person is, the more likely they are to understand and accept evolution.
* The "discussion" only happens in backward places like Turkey and parts of the united states.

Nope.
But that is the only scientific model that exists right now. There is a small amount of debate about the exact order and mechanism, but the big idea of common decent is universally accepted.

Yes, in science there have been other models how life diversified, but they have showed themselves to be false.

Thank you for asking this question.
I have found the answers you've gotten so far to be pretty enlightening.
Looks alot to me as if these atheists are pretty unanimously confused about where they came from, and what they're doing here, doesn't it?
I'm giving this question a star!
