you need to eat after your workout. so taking whey, protein bars, and milk will help a lot to build muscles. if you are looking for a tone/tight defenition. you need to do cardo. stuff like running, swimming, walking. something to get the heart rate going will help burn fat. just make sure you get lots of rest and eat right...hope that helps

Savor every word MightyRighty asserted - he knows how to play the "game". Also, just think of a sculptor sculpting a statue – he/she commences with a huge bulk of stone or what have you, then they chisel away. You can’t start from nothing. Here are some pointers when it comes to bulking up; consume a lot of protein and calories (quality not quantity) but not too many carbohydrates (sugar) – just enough to fuel your workouts; it’s a *****, but take the time to do some reading – knowledge is power; eat organic (if you can afford it); follow a scientifically based workout routine; consistently add weight to your exercises every time your in the gym to perpetually stress your muscles (this is quintessential and is especially true for hard gainers); get sufficient rest (8 or more hours of sleep); read up on any supplements before use; whey protein isolate, L-glutamine (is natural and fights catabolism), creatine monohydrate (is natural), protein bars, multi – vitamins (i.e. animal pak), etc. are excellent; and the list goes on.

Bulking up and having good definition are too different processes and are very hard to achieve at the same time. Most body builders bulk up for months and months and about two months before the competition they consentrate on definition. You best bet for now is too bulk up. So, you will need to eat a lot of protein(a gram for every pound of body weight) and lift heavy a weight you can handle were you can do 4-5 reps only. Do a different muscle group every day. So on day one concentrate on your back muscles, day two concentrate on your chest and shoulder muscles, day three concentrate on your leg muscles, day four concentrate on your arms. Lifting heavy will require your muscles to have days of rest to recover and time to build up. The other days of the week you can do your abs and some cardio work i.e running or bicycle etc...Only for about 20 minutes though. After doing this routine for the winter months come April start defining yourself up so you will be cut up for summer. So instead of doing heavy weights start doing light weights and high repetitions. You will also want to increase your cardio work to about 45 minutes. You will also have to cut back on the fats and carbohydrates in your diet. As for you eatting protein bars, milk and whey drinks that is fine for your bulking up period. You may also want to look into taking creatine. That will help your muscles recover fast and it will bulk you up faster. So I would try all of that. But, getting big and getting cut up at the same time is practically impossible. So do the bulking now in the winter and do the defining in the spring so you can look good for summer. I hope this helps and do take care.
