Religion: A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.

So in essence, most Atheists are religious because they believe in their cause or principle and are devoted to it.

Uh-oh!!! Now comes the hate and rage mail... AGAIN!

I wouldn't say atheism is a religion, for religion is man's view of God and our way of attempting to cover sin by the works of our own hands (morality). Causes, principles and etc. are too easily wrapped in individual morality, therefore making religion something that is outside the bond of a God's will that atheists don't believe in to begin with! Since most atheists I know don't believe in God or any higher power (atheism- no theism- no God), it's not possible for atheism to be a religion in which they have faults to confess to and etc. for they don't believe in a God to forgive their sin in the first place!

No hate mail - just No. Its not. You may have encountered a few people on here that behave like that but they are a tiny tiny minority of atheists. By the way Merriam Webster defines religions as : a body of beliefs and practices regarding the supernatural and the worship of one or more deities

What you maybe want to attack are anti-theists - and hey I'm one of those, I specifically want to argue theists out of their beliefs, as they are dangerous to me and my world. And frankly I've got logic on my side, so guess what I think I and my kind might win, certainly we've managed to get rid of a load of religions up to now.

By the way - I am technically a Pastafarian, all praise the FSM.

To exactly the same extent that not believing in any other sort of mythical creature is a religion. And I'm fairly sure no one here would use the term 'religion' to refer to disbelief on unicorns or faeries.
Also, the majority of definitions for 'religion' do mention some supernatural element. The definition you're using is not one that is applied often in conversation.

Lol, nope. It's a philosophical stance on the existence of deities.

I'm an atheist with a religion. So I know there's a difference. Lack of belief in something does not a religion make.

Just what cause or principle are we supposed to be devoted to ?
If you don't believe in the tooth fairy , is your religion - - not believing in tooth fairies ?
If that's the case , there are many things that I don't believe in , I must have many religions .

Atheism is the lack of religion. To call it a religion is like calling 'bald' a hairstyle.

I know it helps you sleep to think that, but your definition of religion is way off. It is a religion like not collecting stamps is a hobby. Got it?

Good point. I don't think there are really TRUE Atheist out there when it comes to thinking about what an Atheist is actually classified as if you really think about it. How can someone not believe in anything, when your belief is that there is actually nothing to believe in. Mind blowing...
