As a tourist you dont need a visa to enter the US as they operate a Visa waiver scheme for British citizens.

This is what happened to John Lennon. Go to the US Embassy in London. Bring copies of all the court papers you can get your hands on. Fill out the forms for the visa and it will ask you about convictions. Attach your paperwork. It will take a little time to make a decision (everybody will shove it upstairs). But I am pretty sure that you wil eventually get your visa.

Its possible yes
The balance of probabilities will lie in the facts such as how long ago...prosecuted?....time spent..other records etc etc
It looking for long term USA residency It wont stop you applying but you may be refused
You could try for a visa (short term entry) but you may get all the way there and refused at the point of entry
so basically you dont know til u try
