This puts me in mind, of course, of the Goethe work about the rose in the woods that pleaded with the one who would pick it; the rose pointed out that it's beauty, left planted in the forest floor, would remain for all to share, while a plucked rose soon withers and dies.
In matters of love, one is not apt to leave the object of affection for all to admire and share. Love is a possession, holding both the person obsessed and the object of obsession.
If the analogy of love being a rose you had better not pick is true, then perhaps Oscar Wilde was speaking for us all when he wrote:
"Man always kills the thing he loves".

This lyric is stupid. If you leave the rose on the vine it will eventually wither and die. And it doesn't only grow on the vine because you can place it in water to help it blossom. The analogy is nonsense.

All we lose is our freedom to a certain extent - the choices we make after we have found Love affects not just our lives but the lives of another person

Because claiming something as our own, changes it - it becomes something else. Think about it.
Things and people come in and out of our lives continually - the way to truly love something or someone, is to leave it be. We don't have the right to "claim" anything as our own - for long.

Oh I don't know. I found my rose and she and I have been growing happily side by side for the last 27 years. I hope you find your rose as well.
I don't think you "pick" the rose, Dearest. I think you plant yourself next to it and watch yourself grow alongside. Love is a growing process.
Blessings.

Love is like a bird in the hand - squeeze too tight and you kill it. Let it go free and it returns to your hand. You can not own another - you can only borrow their heart for a little while.

Only when a rose is embraced tightly enough, will it offer to you, it's beautiful aroma. Go ahead and pick it and call it your's.
(((Hi Jack)))...actually I could get in trouble for expressing those sentiments on a plane.

We lose what we love....we fall in love with someone, and as soon as we start trying to change them in the least way, we no longer have what we fell in love with.
