First of all, I agree competely. I am a Christian, and unlike many other Christians I find no reason to get into an argument that is meant for someone else. The Christian Church has been instructed not to force Salvation onto anybody, yet the Church still does it. The reason behind it is arrogance, most Christians believe that if they bug people enough than eventually they will decide to be saved. Trouble is that is taking the conviction of the Holy Spirit into they're own hands. Instead what we are supposed to do is share it with a person until that person doesn't want to hear it anymore, it is called planting a seed. And to that effect, if the individual is not saved by Christ atoning work on the cross than why even bother talking with them about the doctrines, unless they ask they don't care.
I am a little ashamed of the Church when it does these things, and I make a public apology to anyone who has ever been pressured by someone to become saved. Let me assure that Jesus was never like this, read the four Gospels and you will see that when a people didn't want to listen anymore He stopped talking. Jesus is not reflected in the Church when the Church is obstinent and pig headed. There are good Christians out there who are not that arrogant, please do not jusdge us all by the actions of some.

Because people want to get their points across also. Also alot of atheist want to bash Christians for having beliefs they don't or won't understand, and you have the Christians who bash atheist for not believing. It's a on going war that didn't start on yahoo answers but since the beginning of time. It's something that isn't going to change no matter who the question is directed too! :)

Y!A is a public forum where anyone and everyone is free to "answer" any question they wish.
If the person wants ONLY christians to answer or ONLY atheists to answer..... they should go to an EXCLUSIVE atheist or christian-only forum.
Y!A isn't the place to go if you want to direct questions to only one group of people because everyone else has a say too.

Some people think the louder they express their point of view, the more correct they are. Some cannot fathom the idea of being wrong. Others just like to disrupt - it's fun for them when they get a rise out of someone. Don't rise.

I think it happens in all categories, for example the other day in politics there was a question addressed only to European. I gave my point of view, since I am one, but afterwords came many replies of US citizens defending Bush and of course you don't know how many thumbs down I received.
Never mind, this is life.

This is an open forum and everybody has the right to answer any questions that they wish.
Having said that I do try to stay away from such questions unless it is a question asking christians to ridicule/criticize atheism

Sometimes I answer questions directed toward atheists, because I used to be one.
Also, sometimes I think the questioner genuinely wants an answer, but seem as if they are asking a 'dumb/fundie' question and get a lot of disrespectful answers because of it.

Amen!
or Right On!, depending on your belief system.
And if I happen to go to one of those questions for Christians and see a few non-thiests, and I mention in my answer "It's good to see X here, if it means that they are now Christian", am I going to get the downward-directed thumb? You bet I am!

To be honest, I'm interested in christian questions both from an intellectual curiosity and from a desire to see the level of though used in answering.

Because people like their opinions to be heard whether or not they are asked for these opinions. Plus many of them seem to believe that 2 points are hard to come by, so we must get them where we can. lol
