The secret is, prosperity isn't a given. If you're in it for the money, you're barking up the wrong tree.
You may need to lose the name-it-claim-it theology and whatever church taught it to you and start over. Jesus said to GIVE away EVERYTHING, not to gain it all.

These are some thoughts from listening to christian teachers who have investigate the issue and don't have ulterior motives of getting christians' money .. but I haven't got this working in my own life:
Tithing may actually be somewhat Old Testament "works" thinking, although God wants to get us into a generous state of mind. And if we give in genuine faith, God has promised to bless back. Someone promising a return just because they say so is lying, I think
I've been told that 2 Corinthians 8:19 is one of the basic scriptures:
"For you know the generosity of our Lord Jesus Christ. He was rich, yet became poor, so that through His poverty you might become rich."
i.e. Salvation in the fincancial area should be by grace, as it is in other areas.
So God can pour out His blessings into our lives so we are blessed and a blessing to others. But not just for own self-indulgence.

The surest "secret" to receive a blessing is to throw a party - not for your friends but for the lame, dirty homeless, blind, drug addicts, orphans prostitutes, and black people (just in case you are white) By spending on those who cannot repay you or invite you back you are guaranteed a fortune. Do for them as you would do for the very dear ones to you. Do not buy them poor quality stuff but that which you honestly know and believe you would treat yourself to.
Other secrets are:
1. Make sure your giving is joyful. Do not murmur or grumle whenever or after you give.
2. Do not let it be known that you have given.

God is sovereign. He gives to those He wants to give to. True, there are blessings that come with tithing if you give with joy in your heart. You may be blessed in ways you may never have thought of. But to hope for financial prosperity because you tithe is contrary to God's ways.

God does bless us when we give to support His work—but not necessarily by giving us more money. His blessings come to us in many ways, including the joy of knowing that He is using our gifts to help others and point them to Christ.
God doesn't promise to bless us, however, if our motives are selfish or we are giving only because we hope to get something in return. One of the most sobering stories in the Bible is that of Ananias, who with his wife sold some property to give money to the church. (You can read about them in Acts 5:1-11.) But they were only doing it to impress people, and they lied and held some of it back. God severely judged them as a result.
Remember that Jesus—the divine Son of God who left heaven's glory for the sin and corruption of this world—was born into a very poor family, and was poor Himself. On one occasion, He declared, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head" (Matthew 8:20). While some people of wealth supported Jesus' ministry, none of the apostles were wealthy, nor did they gain wealth by their ministry.
Make sure Christ is first in your life. Then ask Him to help you gain control of your finances by budgeting your income and cutting down on your expenses. Then be generous in your giving, so God's work can advance.

I have asked myself the same question. I believe that prosperity is prosperity in spiritual things. Nobody can take those things away from you. If you get rich you will have to worry about your possessions. People robbing you, sueing you and being jealous of you.

Not to search for riches I think its in Proverbs.
I understand that... I grew up poor and now learning at 29 that I will have to be a good steward of what God gives me.
Like Credit Cards are bad for Instant Gratification. Its way to easy to burn up a credit line.
But God knows I would probably waste it after I help those that I would help.
( That is ...IF I won the lottery- that I don't even play).
But I am blessed in so many other ways and I thank God that my husband and I are Spiritually blessed and all our needs are met. We have to be content and give God thanks for what we have and usually bigger income- bigger problems.
"Give thanks in all things"
"First seek God in ALL his Righteousness and all things will be added to you"

God's blessings cannot be bought with tithing (which is unbiblical) and "good" behavior. God's blessings are free.
Turn off the TBN hucksters and read a Bible. Then ask God to bless you freely.

Paul said, "For me, to live is Christ and to die is GREAT gain."
If you are "IN" Christ, you are already prosperous.
Don't confuse monetary wealth with prosperity as some do.
