Are these good things? If so, why aren't you Christian?

I have nothing against love, tolerance and equality. Unfortunately being a Christian also requires a belief in imaginary supernatural beings for which there is no evidence whatsoever.

I think all of those things are wonderful. I don't have any problem practicing these beliefs, but I don't see why I have to be a Christian to practice these things. I don't believe in God so I think that would hamper any possibility of my becoming a christian. What makes me angry is how some christians seem to believe you can't practice morality without believing in God. I see it as I don't need the words of Jesus to show me what to do I can figure it out on my own.(It's really not difficult) and I don't need the threat of hell to make me a good person. So to answer your last question. I would never be christian because I don't like to spend time with sanctimonious hypocrites that need an ancient book to tell them how to live a good life. grow up and accept your own responsibility for your life!

Because material possessions are fun. Actually no, forget that. Flaw in my reasoning (well, I have been drinking since 9:30 am Friday, Sydney time) Look, somebody can make a suggestion that I might agree with, that doesn't mean I'm gonna follow them to the ends of the earth.
The fact is, I'm in debt to the tune of about $16,000 and I am hopelessly unemployable. Do you wanna love and tolerate me?

While I support these ideals I'm not a Christian because I don't believe in god. On the other hand, I've seen some Christians who obviously don't support love, tolerance or equality. Does that make them atheists?

Many people espouse good things, should I follow them too? As an aside, Jesus actually was more equal to the poor than too the middle class and rich. And his stance on females and their rights is not the best either.

Just because an individual is a good person and says good things does not mean that I will "believe" in their teachings espcially not if those teaching have no facts, or evidence behind them.

Because jesus was a fictional character in a 2000 year old myth that is a plagiarized re-write of MANY other religious stories that came before it.

There is more "love, tolerance, and equality" in a children's book than in the bible.

If killing a world filled with people in a massive flood is "love, tolerance, and equality" i'd rather be hateful and intolerant.

1) Christians do not support these things. They do verbally, but not in practice.

2) Human nature does not allow for this type of practice to be beneficial in a world where people take advantage of each other. If you show love, turn the cheek, and put others first, people will relieve you of everything you own and your all of your energy. You will be drained of all your resources and be left at the mercy of your peers.

In a perfect world, love, tolerance, and equality would be great. But the world is not perfect. Mankind is evil and cruel. We can change ourselves but not each other. Therefore we must look out for our own best interests and provide our own security.

"Blessed are those that believe in what is best for them, for never shall their minds be terrorized - Cursed are the "lambs of God", for they shall be bled whiter than snow!" Book of Satan V 9 -Anton LaVey

Yes, I do support those things. The reason I'm not a christian is because christians generally don't support those things. Anytime you think that someone else is evil just because they have a different faith, you are not practicing tolerance, love, or equality. But then again, I hold myself to higher standards than most of them do.

The question really is, why aren't your Christ-like? You're bragging about your Christianity... you've listed Jesus' instructions to you; but every aspect of your question flies in the face of his edicts.

I'll tell you one thing Jesus never said. He never said, "you should become a Christian". (Check the Bible) What's so marvelous about our Lord is that he practiced what he preached...

Though Jesus was astute enough to predict it, his goal was not to polarize peoples & be an excuse for confrontations. It's not His fault that we behave as we do. He lead the way, but though we claim to... we haven't followed. If we did, antagonistic questions like this would not come out of our mouths.

Do better. You're capable of it. Jesus said so.

I suggest you actually read the gospels before making that kind of a statement. Jesus preached to love thy brother as thyself but he also sated that in order to be his follower one must hate his family and himself. His teachings in general a questionable at best. To the last question, why am i not a Christian there is a simple answer... Christianity is not a valid worldview. Evidence shows that we were not created, there was no fall, and no flood as stated in the bible. This destroys the concept of original sin and thusly gives us no need for a savior. This makes Christianity moot.
