This requires a vet trip. It's likely a maggot, but the cat's body will be fighting off infection because of the insect and the cat will be needing antibiotics to help get back to normal. The vet will clean out the wound. Maggots in a wound is NOT a good sign!

I know everyone has already said this but that cat needs to go to a vet as soon as possible.
I have seen this before, a bug bites the cat and lays its egg inside the bite. The egg hatches and then the larvae is in the hole. This is an awful thing and needs to be taken care of immediately!
Good luck!

Sounds like a slug. Put vaseline in the hole. It will suffocate the slug or force it out. But the most important thing you can do is to get him to the vet! It could be infected too.

It's most probably a maggot.
I wonder what sort of shape the cat is in? Is the wound old?
Maggots often hatch in cats whose fur is matted, and also
if the cat can't groom itself and the owner doesn't bother to groom the animal.
That's all I could think it might be.

It's called a Warble:

They aren't terribly dangerous, but you need to take her to a vet and have them remove it, clean the wound, and prescribe antibiotics. These are VERY common in cats. Two of mine have had them.
