Carmelo mio. Heads up, They are already in Europe. Of course the Europeans have good experiences with them, have you heard of anything bad done against them as a whole?

If you mean the Eurpean Union, Both sides need each other but for all the nonsense being spewed on answers regarding Turkey's integration.

Primarily it isn't a question of economics or some other factor. It is mainly a clash of civilizations, No-brains call it Muslism and the rest. But the truth to the matter is, it is European & Western civilizations & Islam.

Turkey is the most ideal and the most coveted in the lot owing to its difference from the European norms in terms of economics, demography, culture, religion, and geography.

For open-minded non-paranoid individuals, Turkey's entrance into the EU would enhance its relation with the Islamic world as it is a Muslim-majority country. Apart from that, Turkey's young, energetic population and economy will be a symbol to the Caucasus & Central Asian countries apart from the Middle East.

For optimists, Turkey's ascension will symbolize as the merging of European and Western culture and Islam.

I've got to really agree with what 'bogazi said. When I saw the question asked yesterday, I googled it and got a very thorough page on Wikipedia with a very objective history of Turkey's attempts to join the EU. The information is out there. And I personally don't like to waste my 5 points on a question that 1) has already been asked, even once and 2) isn't very interesting to begin with :)

usourselvesandourcat sums it up well.

additional to that.

The bottom line is that Turkey's attempts to join the EC will be black balled all the time there is a single Turkisk soldier in Cyprus. Certainly by Cyprus which is now a member of the EC. Maybe by the UK as well if we ever get a government with the guts to stand up for the rights of Cyprus.

Even if that is resolved no country that is 95% muslim will be allowed to join the EC. Many countries will object but I doubt the polititions will be honest enough to give their real reasons.

Ofcourse they will say Turk's are your still enemy. How can they teach their children , we were not strong enough to defend our country at those days.

Hell 600 years ?
If we made assimilation ( hell ) , 600 years will be enough to learn Turkish and become a Muslim.

A number of us want it, so the rest of us do not. It is very simply indeed :)
The UK, France, German, and so on fought each other for centuries. Even after WWII, German have become a member of it, so I do not see any problem at all other than intolerant and narrow-minded people. It is very simply indeed :)

Yes, Turkey would like to be a member of EU, and is in the process. Does that bother you? I wonder why... Are you prejudiced against Turkish people? By the way, Turkey did not for 600 years tried to expand to Europe. Turkey is a fairly new, democratic and secular country founded in 1923. It has strong economy and would like to benefit not loose through the membership of EU, so is at a process of discuss and settlement with EU. Meaning, what are going to be benefiting Turkish trade when becoming a member? Which taxes are going to be exempt? What does Turkey going to loose from these trade agreements? so on and so forth. I am sorry that your news resources talk about Ottoman Empire, in order to install a fear among your people against Turkish community and Turkish citizens. My advice for you would be reading numerous papers from different standpoints. It can give you some critical information in your inquisition, where you see multiple perspectives to reach to an opinion that is not bias.

Europe would be a better place and safer with a Turkish entry. The current Greek Government promotes this publicly- though I cannot guess what they say and do privately. I think, however, any progress in Turksih entry will also involve progress in the Kurdish question especially because of the Kurdish sector of Iraq. The Armenian-question, I suggest is not relevant to Turkish entry, but is again something that I am sure the Turks wish to address and may do so if they do not feel too scolded about it!!
Ultimately, though, the mood for accession is not enthusiastic and I fancy that in the end Turkey itself may withdraw its application. That would not be good for Europe.

If I am not mistaken, you are Serbian.

Therefore, you should very well know that we WERE there as the Ruler for centuries.

I am not going to teach you history including your own countries.

By the Way, I think you are a little confused about the totality regime of the Ottoman Empire and the nowadays democratic Turkey; we don't want to come and invade the countries again. EU is basically a trading regulation.

I advise you to brush up your knowledge about the questions that you ask and then come back again..

I think you need to improve your English first so that your question becomes comprehensible. As I understand, you are against Turkey's EU membership. Well, that is your personal problem. You can gather some more people and work for it if you like. Meanwhile, Turkey is moving towards EU membership step by step. Eventually she will achieve what is the conclusion of a natural evolution. And even you will not be able to prevent that. Only the people of Turkey can decide not to join, when the day comes.
