i have been on wellbutrin xl for 4 weeks now i still feel very depressed, if not more so. i have quit talking all together at home in fear that i will break down in front of my brother or mom. it hard to get out of bed, i just go thru the motions at work not even realizing whats going on, and come home and sleep. i dont see my MD til 10-5-07, do you think i should give it time and see if the meds are just taking time to work or give him a call to see if there is something that can be done now???

Give your Doc a call now! Wellbutrin is obviously not the meds for you. Most of the time, it takes changing your meds up to 4 or 5 times before you find the right one I've been through it. I'm on my 4th med change and it's working great, weird that it's wellbutrin I love. But everyone is different, and you and your doctor will find the medication for you. Just call your doctor soon, because you don't deserve to live life the way you are right now, just going through the motions everyday. Good Luck, and I feel for ya!

The first effect antidepressants have is to increase your energy levels, followed by improving your mood. The result of this is that the person on the medication feels worse before they get better. Logically that would imply that the drugs are working, but I'm not sure it works like that.

Does your family know about your depression? Maybe it would help if you talked to them, at least you wouldn't need to worry so much.

I think you should see your doctor. They might say that you need to be on the medication longer, but you obviously need something more than just medication. they might refer you to a psychiatrist or something. Three weeks is too long though.

Good luck xxx

Wellbutrin doesn't work for everyone, though they might tell you to give it time to build in your system. However, if I were you, I'd call the doctor and move up the appointment before going off the medication. You can at least do a phone consultation and see what they say.

it usually takes an anti-depressant a few weeks to kick in... if yours isn't helping, call the doctor and talk to his nurse.. let them know about your symptoms and that there is no improvement.

they may up your doseage or change the med all together. let them know you'd like some help now... most doctor's offices are cooperative in these matters.

you can also do a yahoo search for DEPRESSION SELF HELP. you will find a lot good advice and information.

take care and i hope you start feeling better very soon!
