HONEY
What i meant was his disciples were not able to understand what he was saying..

Assume in a class of students, there can be students who grasp the idea quickly and some who cannot grasp the idea at all.

Or may be jesus failed to make their disciples understand what he actually meant

I suggest you watch the movie zeitgeist.

I watched about 1/3 of it before i had to leave for work this morning, and it was great. it explains the basic ideas behind religions... and it goes into detail about everything that christianity plagiarized from all the previous religions which plagiarized those same things from religions before that. It's crazy how they do not understand.

The bible is not proof of anything other than the fact that someone wrote a book 2000 years ago. The bible is an ancient book filled with someone else's twist on stories that came before it. The names have been changed, but the stories remain the same. Watch the movie, you'll see what i mean.

Edit: In regards to mike's message above me about no historians of that time recording any historical references to Jesus...... That is also touched upon in the movie.

Jesus' disciples where not "sub-normal" in intelligence. (Mathew was a tax collector, at least he knows math or accounting, and some law subjects). Understanding a person takes a long, long way. Have you got a friend there, even a best friend? Do you honestly think you really understand him/her?

It's the same with the disciples, they were plain simple men. Some are educated. But even the education they got were not enough to comprehend the things that came forth from the mouth of Jesus. It's not that the disciples were sub-normal. It's Jesus who is super, super, super in intelligence...

And as for the Holy Bible. Some of the books were written way before Christ died on the cross (Old Testament). Only the New Testament were written way after Jesus' death. The translation mistakes are present because that's the problem of translating words from different cultures: no exact meaning or equivalent word to the other language. The fact that the whole Holy Bible was created from Greek, Hebrew, and other languages is a proof that translating all of these can really be hard. And scholars agree that it's really difficult to turn the words as exactly as what the writers before would like them to be meant in the English language.

As for the "proof" thing? Most if not all the Old Testament books did refer or quote about the birth, life and death of the Messiah. And in the exact fashion that it is to be. So, it doesn't matter if the New Testament books were written for more than 30 years after Jesus' death. What matters is that the New Testament continues to solidify ALL that's written in the Old Testament.

Male Jews back then all grew up memorizing the whole Torah to prepare for being a rabbi. That was completed in the first stage of school, and there were three stages. Pretty much everyone got through the first two. The third was the hardest. If you were an excellent student in the first two, you could request becoming a student of a rabbi. They would then test you in all areas of the scripture to see if you were worthy to follow them. After all, they didn't have time to teach everyone. So they chose a small group which made for a better teacher student ratio. If you weren't chosen, you returned to whatever trade your father did. Then the students who were chosen followed around the rabbi and copied him to the T. If he picked up a piece of grass to look at it, then they picked up a piece of grass..etc. They even went to the bathroom at the same time. So when the gospels describe Jesus coming to the Sea of Galilee and calling the fishermen, it is obvious why they left everything. They had been rejected by a rabbi, and now one was calling for THEM! They had essentially just been accepted into an ivy league school. Even their dad who was fishing with them at the time would have been super happy to see them leave. They were moving up in life. The fact that Jesus chose them when they had been rejected by every other rabbi around, shows that He saw something special in them. He doesn't place pure intelligence at the top of the heap. You are right about their poor ability to truly grasp what He was saying though. The writers themselves even say that. They remembered how they once thought and said, "Boy we sure didn't get what He was saying when He said it." But that is more from a cultural difference. They had been raised in a certain way of thinking, and Jesus kind of broke that mold, and it was hard for them to think like that. It wasn't so much stupidity as a re-education process. Also, in the gospels it says right in them that many of the people who were eye witnesses to those events were still alive. You also have to realize that there are a lot of extremely smart people who know a lot about the history of how the Bible was written and about the earliest manuscripts who can tell you that the translations have all been meticulous. Of course there are spelling errors and other slight differences, but NONE change any doctrinal issue. There is no spelling error that changes whether or not Jesus was God. We can have confidence in God's word and know that what was recorded actually happened the way it says.

A) The Hebrew Scriptures/Old Testament was written before Jesus appeared on the scene. the Greek Scriptures were not.... not all of them. The Gospels were written by those that walked with him. The Book of Matthew was written in 41 CE. Jesus was executed in 33CE, a mere 8 years later. The Book of John? 98CE. A bit longer but so that big a stretch.

B) the Apostle Paul was a Lawyer. Luke was a physician. The others were perhaps "unlettered" (or didn't have any of the higher learning that the pharisees / saducees received, but they were able to recognize the Messiah where those that were of supposedly higher intelligence failed.

Dave? The bible is not, with respect, A book that was written 2000 years ago. It is a collection of 66 books written over a period of over 1500 years.

If you were in days of Jesus, would you be able to comprehend God becoming man idea? There were old testament scriptures from Adam to Moses to King David to Isaiah that prophesied the coming of Jesus. Yet very little, not even high priests and pharisees, could understand Jesus as son of God. Billions today don't understand. That must make just about all of us, except a handful of those with great faith, with sub-normal intelligence. It's difficult to understand. It takes faith. The Bible even says about the words of Jesus Christ, to those without faith, it is considered foolishness. But to those who believe, it is a message of salvation.
By the way, many of the non-Christian ancient history you know, were written over a hundred, hundreds, even over a thousand years later, yet you believe that. Why won't you believe in a historical account of Jesus, that was written a mere 20-40 years after his death and resurrection, by eye-witnesses? Mark and Luke were not "disciples" of Jesus, but eye witnesses. Much of the historical compilations, like a Bible, of Greek and Egyptian cultures were written hundreds of years after they occurred, yet you believe in those. I think the Bible is being scrutinized unfairly.
I don't know if you read the entire Bible. Most haven't. Even the vast majority of confessing Christians haven't read it in it's entirety. But I've heard many of those "mistakes" in the Bible argument. But that's all they say, mistakes are there. Yet, they can't even come up with one example of those mistakes. After reading the entire Bible, one will realize, there are no mistakes. And try to translate foreign text, when there are words that won't translate to English one for one, or even contextually. But the Bible, with God's inspiration, was translated the best they can, and enough for one to believe and receive the free gift of salvation.
Many people think Christians try to close peoples minds and think narrow mindedly. Those are bad Christians. There are many bad Christians. But the message of the Bible is still true and good. Am I a good Christian? I'll let others and God judge me. But one thing that Jesus Christ is trying to do is help people to open their eyes and mind, and see with truly open eyes, and not the way of the world, media, news, advertisements wants us to view the world.

Did Jesus choose his disciples or did they choose him ? It doesn't take the bible to prove his life and death . That's history . Jesus was an ordinary human being who lived at the time shown in history books . That , in no way , makes him or anyone else a god .

So wrong.
Proper debate has it that no one can just come out with a comment like "disciples were of sub-normal intelligence" without appropriate back-up.
What did you read that made you come to this conclusion?
Or, would you have us all become blind followers of Sita?
"The Bible was written well after his death."
Do you categorize 8 years as "well after his death"?
That's when Matthew's book appeared.
Do you categorize 22 years as "well after his death"?
That's when Luke's book appeared.
You are not familiar with writing, are you ....especially biographies?
BTW supposed "translation mistakes" is a cop-out.
Simply having a wide variety of translations on hand will provide the intended meaning.
You come across as someone who FIRST, does not wish to accept the Bible, THEN goes seeking excuses.

The disciples were simply uneducated, except for Paul who was a roman citizen. The old Testament was written long before HIS birth.

It sounds as if you are parroting several misconceptions all at once.
If you have indeed read the Bible, you know why it only seemed they were of subnormal intelligence...it's because they were normal. The reasons are in there.
You have made several accusatory statements, but show no proof.

Subnormal disciples -- do you mean today or in 33 AD?

Actually, to judge by the divisions over jesus' message that existed historically as well as today, one would wonder if the fault lies with the disciples or if the message itself is flawed.
