The idea is that renewable energy like E85 gasoline take less resources than other energy sources. Coal and oil take a much longer process to naturally "create" more. Most renewable energy sources use plants that can be easily grown or garbage which will create less landfills. How does this affect climate change? Plants consume CO2, a greenhouse gas, and landfills produce greenhouse gas through the process of decaying materials. Greenhouse gasses are believed to be a major cause of global warming.

tincoatr made a valid point. I have to add that this is a cyclic event that is brought about by internal oscillations of our Sun. Every 50, 000 years or so, we go through rapid changes like this. Also, every 400 years or so, we experience even more rapid changes; and this is where we are today. More coal and wood was burned during the last 250 years than ever we do today; so the Machiavellian, realpolitik people are going to use whatever means they find available to take our money from us gullible folk. No change there, I see. I feel that is nearer the truth than we all realize, and the politicians are taking full advantage....
