Sort of. My best diet ever, when I lost 90 lbs, I ate a lot of dry breakfast cereal. It was easy to portion out by one cup or 3/4 cup servings, as listed on the box, the average calories per serving (the cereal alone) were 110 calories, and those being given, the sky was the limit as far as flavor --- I had Count Chocula, Capn Crunch, Honey Smacks, Trix, Sugar Pops, Honey Grahams, Ohs, etc etc etc. I was like a kid in a candy store, but lost weight crazy mad fast.
The milk I used was skim or powdered dry milk. I say "sort of" junk, because these cereals, even though they take a bad rap from some of the media, are always fortified with vitamins and minerals, so they may give you too much sugar, but they definitely give you some nutrients you need also.
Good luck

Undoubtedly people have dieted with junk food. If you keep your daily calorie intake lower than your energy output, you will lose weight regardless of the food choices. If you eat the doughnuts and the cinnamon but and exercise a great deal, you would lose, provided you exercised enough.
However, just because you are losing weight does not mean the diet is good for you.Such a diet would deprive your body of needed nutrtion and in the long run, you would suffer for it. Since a donut diet contains no protein, for one thing, you would lose muscle instead of fat. Your body would literally "eat itself" to survive.
As for the Subway guy -- the diet he used wasn't junk food. A nutritionist evaluated it and although she thought he should have drank orange juice instead of pop, she thought the sandwiches he was eating weren't too bad nutrtitionally. Note that he chose the low fat sandwiches, not the high calorie ones.
I've struggled with weight for years. I know plenty about it. Unfortunately.

People "diet" all the time with junk food. It is just a "bad diet".
And no, you will not lose weight on three doughnuts and a cinnamon bun.

Have a friend that lives on processed food, candy and soda. She's a freak though and never gains a pound. I don't recommend the same "diet". Limiting calories is good, but it should be healthy and sensible foods.

You can try anything, but what you'll be is hungry (if you restrict calories to the amount you need to lose weight) and undernourished. A small order of french fries can be nearly as many calories as you're supposed to eat in a day.
