I am eating 1,200 calories a day, and I'm losing weight, but why is it better to eat at 8, 12, 4, and 8 than at 8, 12, 5, and 10? Isn't 1,200 calories the same no matter when they're consumed, especially if you're exercising?

experts don't say that only those promoting some type of bs diet. there is no reason to not eat at night if you are hungry, it's what you eat and how much. starving the body for 12 hours a day is not optimum for the health and definetly not for weigh management.

since the level of activity is at it's lowest at night carbohydrates should not be consumed as they will not be utilized. free fatty acids are the primary energy source used by the body at rest. rest being the equivalent to sleeping, walking, light house work, office work/computing, low intensity resistance training (light weights & high reps). insulin sensitivity also decreases as the day progress so when carbohydrates are ingested late at night nutrient uptake in skeletal muscle is decreased, the potential for fat storage is increased.

meals late in the evening should be protein based with either veggies or healthy fats. those that preach about not eating after "x" time of the day truly have no real knowledge of human physiology or human biology. the body needs nutrients every 3-4 hours that you are awake and these requirements do not cease just because of the time of day.

the metabolic rate actually increases during the 1st sleep cycle then progressively decreases until it reaches it's lowest point right before awaking. another reason to consume breakfast daily among the many others.

Well, this is a tricky question. So listen up.

There are certain biochemical reactions in the body that are activated and inhibited by something called "Negative feedback mechanisms". Examples of such reactions are:
HMP Shunt, Lipogenolysis, Glycolysis, and Glycogenolysis.

These reactions are a part of a chain that ultimately result is calories uptake and usage. The 8, 12, 4, and 8 system is optimum for activation of such cycles and hence allowing the body to use up the calories in the right way.

Not all people know this but, no, it is not true, 1200 calories are not the same no matter when they are consumed.

Exercising will only allow the RATE of consumption to increase, but not the order of consumption. Nutritional experts have concluded that there are only a few OPTIMUM calories intake. The 8, 12, 4, and 8 is one of them.

It all depends on when you are most active. Experts say not to eat a night because night time is when most people are in-active and are getting ready for sleep. So if you are still active a few hours after you eat your last meal at 10, there would be nothing wrong with it because you will give your body a chance to burn off some of the calories you just took in.

Real experts don't tell you not to eat at night. It's a myth. You're only not supposed to eat a heavy meal at night that might keep you awake. Eating at night does not affect weight loss.

The theory is that if you eat late, you go to sleep and don't use those calories.

Some nutritionist and doctors dispute this, but that's the theory.

However, you sleep better on an empty stomach. If your goal is to lose weight and you are doing that (in a healthy way) then don't change anything.

when we eat to close to the time we are about to sleep we don't move around enough in order to burn off the calories we have just intaken so when we go to sleep our food just sits in us making us gain weight...also when you eat that late your body takes in a lot of nutrients and sugar that give you energy and makes it difficult for you to go to sleep...a lot of the time experts say a person should not eat a heavy meal at least two hours before going to bed its alright to just eat a snack like cereal or popcorn thats light but filling
