I've not had a nightmare since maybe 20 years ago; but I guess this dream would fall in that category. Sort of.

I basically dreamt that I was in my new house; but that everynight when I would try to go to sleep, I would start to hear faint Christmas music, and when I would try to find the source, it was coming from me, inside my mind. It would get louder and louder until it was so loud it would be almost deafening. It would continue, until I gave up trying to sleep. Once my thoughts of sleep would return, the music would begin again preventing attempts at sleep. Time would pass, night after night, the quick passage of time making logical sense when you're in a dream. Eventually, through lack of sleep, I started to go insane. Everywhere I looked, I would start seeing bugs, crawling in and out of everything. Unable to sleep it only worsened until everyone thought I was completely mad and started to try and subdue me to check in to a clinic for the mentally disturbed. Then I woke up.

The dream went on for 6 hours of torturous skin crawling bugs and christmas music that upon waking in the morning left me more tired than when I had gone to sleep.

Note: No, I did not eat anything unusual that night.

Wow.... Well something sure is "bugging" you. Some of these symbols may be personal only to you, though. Some look forward to Christmas, while others face it with dread...You may need to spend some time thinking about what associations you personally have with the holiday, also, if you can remember what song or songs you were hearing, it could have relevance as well. But now in reflecting on it, I am getting a feeling that there is something "bugging" you, but whatever the situation is, it's an issue you aren't ready to deal with, and each time you try to go to sleep in the dream to work things out, instead this music comes and gets louder and louder to a point where you "can't hear yourself think", effectively tuning out the issue you need to look at... That it is Christmas music may possibly have some bearing, perhaps you should look back and see if you can find a Christmas where an issue or feeling arose that needs your attention. It's possible that owning a new house may have triggered some old issue, it could be relevant, or maybe not. But something sure does want your attention....

Wow! Christmas music and bugs! Unusual anxiety combination.
Christmas music - it can be annoying, especially because it is used as a marketing tool and you start hearing it in October.
It can mean a time of the year when you see family, perhaps the only time that you do. Perhaps, you don't get along well with some family.
Bugs - Problems.
You are in your new home. You are independent. You are reminded of family and problems. You can't sleep because you can't relax.
You go insane. Then others try to force you into a clinic.
You can't or don't want to cope. You'd prefer for someone else to take care of you.
You are anxious to be on your own. But, you don't want to be bothered by family.
Or, it's just gobbledygook. C. :)!!

You say, "I...dreamt that I was in my new house...", so are you getting ready to buy a new home? Or have you been thinking about it?

If yes, then I would think that your dream is about your fears that taking on the house (or it might be some other challenge in your life if not literally a house) will lead to exhaustion and craziness. You are afraid of whatever it is "new" that you are getting ready to do.

I would think that you should sit down and logically look at your present life situation and try to make a plan to make it work.

Trying to sleep in a new home can be very difficult. You are not settled in your new home yet. You are not familliar with the home yet, so you have this "Fear of the unknow" aspect of the new house. I guess the best way to deal with this dream (if it re-occurs) is simply make a Christmas list. Sounds weird, but it may work.
