I have been reading articles about the "new generation" of parents posting baby pics online and how that might not be a good idea. Years from now those pictures might still be out there and your kids might get mad since they didn't choose to have pictures of themselves posted online. What are people's thoughts on this and are there any good pic websites that allow for password protection so if nothing else, you can control who sees the pictures?

I only have mine private on MySpace. I used to use Yahoo Photos, to share with family and they can order prints and such (we live far from home). Since they stopped Yahoo Photos, I haven't found a comparable service.

I never use names (except for MySpace, of course). And on Myspace, my pics are private, and I don't have even my exact location listed, only my state. I can always remove them from that account if my kids find it objectionable in the future.

I must say that this subject has come up many times. I am a web designer and I see SO many baby pics online these days. However I am totally against it UNLESS you have it password protected. (and this is really a shame) not for the reasons you feel that they will get mad later in life if they are still there, but for these sick pedofiles that try to FIND children. Sickos will make you stop and think about putting your childs pics on the world wide web that's for sure. IF you do: please password protect them. That's the only way we do pics online. At www.blogger.com you can password your blog along with the pics. Also here are a few more. http://picasa.google.com/ - THIS one is awesome. Free and uploads are totally private and organizes them also for you on your computer. http://www.snapfish.com/info42 - NOT familiar with this one. Another good one is www.ourstory.com - most don't know about this one ... but it's really neat. G'luck.

It is a really interesting question. I work at a college and we are finding that employers are actually linking on to my space and facebook sites to look at the pictures posted there. We started to research this trend and found that actually if you post pictures on line at any of these sites, you agree to sign over the rights and ownership of these pictures to the parent company. And they have the right to sell them. It does not matter if you make them private or not. Facebook was looking to sell their stuff last year and one of the potential buyers was MTV. So all the drunk, half naked pictures your teen and young adult post of themselves could wind up in commercials or videos anytime now.

As for baby pictures, I don't post anything that I can not control. My fear is not that my kids will be mad, but more that on-line predators will target them. I know it is highly unlikely but why take the chance? The bottom line is READ THE FINE PRINT! All of those agreement that people simply click "Yes I agree" - you are occasionally signing away your rights and ownership. Beware.

i obviously think it is a good idea as per my avatar is my daughter. The pictures i post are not embarrassing IE taking a bath or crying so I don't think she should have a problem with it. Also i don't use her name in public forums like this or my own so no one can try to find her. I post her pics to Kodackgallery.com. You can have them developed from there and email them to whoever you want then they can develop them also. We do have a website for family and friends and obviously anyone with a computer can see the site but like i said before the pictures are nothing to be upset about.

If they are infant pictures, I don't see an issue with it. I think it is a great way to share with family who otherwise might not get to view the pictures in such a timely manner. Photobucket allows you to make your account private and you give a password to those you allow to view the photos. It's free but I know there is a limit to amount of pics. Mine has over 20 and I don't pay anything.

I post pictures of my son online. I have no problem with it. On MySpace there is a setting where you make all of your pictures private so only friends can see them. That is what I've done.

I agree with you but my argument is not the same. I don't care if the kids get ennoyed somewhere down the road, there are many sickos out there, I just wouldn't post my baby's picture.

I dont think it is a good idea.

There are to many people out there that are not quite with it.
They may see a child and nothing Hey this person lives near me and that is just asking for trouble.

It is sad that things have come to this that you cant celebrate
the life of a child.

My husband would probably kill me if I posted baby pictures of his kids on the Internet. I don't even post pictures of myself on the Internet as it is haraam for women in my religion to do that. I wouldn't do that anyway. Too many freaks in the world.
