I have a mini-pharmacy of anti anxiety, ADHD, anti depressants, ant-psychotic meds due to the constant medication changes my son has gone through since January!
Most if not all of these are controlled substances.
Can somebody tell me how to properly dispose of not just the pills but the bottles and packages properly?

Thank you all for your suggestions, I was wondering whether or not I could donate them thinking about how many people could benefit from the free meds I am going to check out that website regarding donateing your meds, thank you.

If you take them to any chemist they will dispose of them for you free of charge.

Do not flush your medications down the toilet. It is not good for the environment. My village has several days per year where the garbage company will take your old meds and properly dispose of them.
Drugs cannot be donated because of liability issues. After they leave the pharmacy, it is not known if they have been stored properly.

The usual recommendation is to return them to the pharmacist for correct disposal. They can't be reused even if not open then must be discarded. A waste in my opinion when so many can't afford medication, but I think that is a rule. Don't throw them down the toilet either I think that's also illegal or some such environmental restriction thing. Best bet take back to pharmacy and let them worry about. I think it is very responsibly of you to inquire by the way!

Take them to your local pharmacy since you have so much. By the sounds of it, too much to flush. Your pharmacy can dispose of them properly or donate them where appropriate in a safe way.

DO NOT FLUSH ANY MEDICINES DOWN THE TOILET!
Take off the labels, the put them in a trash bag in your garbage. Or you could try taking them back to the pharmacy.

I usually flush all old unused pills down the toilet, and make sure that they've all gone down. As far as the bottles, I take the sticker off and just throw the bottle in the trash.

Flush them. You don't want that old medicine laying around the house. and there is no place that would except a donation of that sort of prescriptions let alone any type of prescription medicine. Flushing them is the best way. My grandma had an inhome hospice nurse and once she died the hospice nurse got the medicine and flushed it. There is nothing wrong with that.

Flush the pills. Soak the bottles in warm water until the label pulls off. Rip it up and toss it and the bottle in the garbage.

Throw the medications down the toilet.
Just throw the bottles away. If you are paranoid that someone will steal your garbage, then tear the labels of the prescription bottles and destroy them--then put them in the trash.

You can bring them back to the pharmacy the prescription was filled at and they will dispose of them for you if you do not want to flush them. Otherwise, just flush them down the toilet.
