darling it is God's creation. in:
Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
right now try to touch your skin, feel it look in the mirror, the Lord Himself form you in His own image. you have the fingerprints & original trademark of God's creation.

Definition: In the Bible, “soul” is translated from the Hebrew ne′phesh and the Greek psy·khe′. Bible usage shows the soul to be a person or an animal or the life that a person or an animal enjoys. To many persons, however, “soul” means the immaterial or spirit part of a human being that survives the death of the physical body. Others understand it to be the principle of life. But these latter views are not Bible teachings.

I don't know that this has ever been specifically defined in the Bible, I'm not sure that the terms we use are that important.
However, I think we have 3 parts:body;spirit;soul. Body is obvious; spirit is the part that comes from God; and soul is what makes me 'me',i.e. mind, personality, will, etc.
Hope this is clear. I think animals have souls, but not spirits

It's a word with no referent, used mainly to shore up bad arguments.

There's no such thing as a soul, and the only reason we have the term is that people want to argue that we live forever, that we're not animals, that animals don't have rights, etc., and they can't make those arguments without claiming that we've got this "soul" thing.

6. Soul is the part of God we have within us, Soul is beyond and above any nature or personality. Soul is God's breath inside us.

Nothing! I can see no evidence for the objective existance of anything like the soul! I haven't got one, and don't want one!
