Fruitful can mean:
1. Fertile, productive, high-yielding, producing in abundance
As in, a fruitful tree ( a tree that produces an abundance of fruit) or a fruitful marriage (a marriage that produces many children; fertile) or fruitful soil (soil that is fertile)
Antonym: barren

2. Productive, useful, beneficial, successful, constructive, effective.
As in, a fruitful conversation or a fruitful meeting.
(A conversation/meeting that was productive and constructive)
Antonym: Futile

So "be fruitful and multiply" can have multiple connotations: one is to be fertile and produce many progeny and multiply in number; or second, to be productive (i.e. in work) and thrive and spread wisdom/knowledge/skills.

It means productive, producing something like a tree would produce a fruit. No necessarily to do with breeding, also creating works of art, good deeds etc. :) Fruitful basically means successful. Practicing Shaman.... quantum physics rocks
