Thinking about purchasing a Glock for CCW. What are the major differences between the 23 and 38 models other than cal. and magazine capacity? Pros and cons ?

I would avoid any pistol in .45 GAP. Just save yourself the time, trouble and extra expense(ammo) and buy a .45 ACP if you want a .45" bore glock. Better yet foget the block and buy a Springfield Armory XD. They have all the benefits of the glock/block(hi-cap, light weight, corrosion resistance) but they are generally cheaper and safer because they come equipped with a grip safety in addition to the trigger safety found on the glock.

The .357 Sig round has slightly higher velocity and energy than the .40 S&W by about 5 percent. However the .357 sig ammo is about 66 percent higher than .40 S&W. If I had to choose between just these two it would be the .40 due to cost of ammo. Both guns are going to have some control issues because of the size and weight of the compacts. With a little practice that can be overcome. I carry the model 19 loaded with 125 grain Cor-Bon to remedy that problem.

I have 3 Glocks, a 20, 23, and 29. Get a29 if you want real stopping power. Look at the ballistics charts. The 10mm is awesome and the Glock 29 fits in most pockets. The Glock 29 also accepts the 15 round clips designed for the larger Glock 20. It comes with 10 round clips, and I normally use them because the pistol hides hetter with that clip. A good option is to have the 10 round clip in the gun, and a 15 round clip in another pocket in case things get rough.

The .357 Sig is a necked down round loaded with a .357 diameter bullet. The rounds are expensiven and these things are not so easy to reload. I would go with the Glock model 23 compact model in .40S&W.

Out of the 2 you listed, I would say the 23 because cheaper ammo means more practice, However if your gonna carry it for a CCW gun. I would say get the 27 and use either pinky extension or magazine adapter by A&G for when your shooting at the range

id go with the glock 23 all the way...accurate and a nice pistol. It will fit in a fanny pack for ccw and a holster...i agree ammo is hard to come by for the 38...if its the .357 sig...then yea go with the 40 cal...

I would go with the 23 as well.
Now on to bigger fish. Timmy you said that both guns kill. If guns kill people then we have to blame cars and trucks for the lives claimed in accedints. I do not want you buying a car now. It is for your safety...in fact you shooldn't own a knife either because those kill people everyday. You never know when one will jump out of the drain board and kill someone. I mean can we use some comon sence about this stuf.... the keyboard made all the spelling errors.

Ammunition for the Glock 38 is limited, expensive and harder to find than for the Glock 23.

Get a glock 19, 9mm (not much difference in lethality with pistol calibers, 9mm ammo is cheaper so you can practice more and be proficent with you pistols cause pistols are much more challenging ot shoot.) A glock 19 is a gun you can fight with and can conceal easily and it runs.

No difference. They both kill. You shouldn't be able to buy guns.
