So I just bought an 05 Toyota Corolla S on August 9th.. It had about 18,700 miles on it.. Now the engine light has popped on at 20,300 miles. And it seems like its using gas faster.

Can anyone think of what I should do? I called the dealer ship and they haven't called me back yet.

Could it be the gas I put in it? I'm really worried that it is, but I've used this gas station before!

It didn't come on RIGHT after I got the gas but the next day, but my co-worker just said the same thing you guys did.

If the light came on right after getting gas, check your gas cap. If it was loose, then the light will reset in a few days.

If the gas cap was not loose, then you need to have the dealer check it and tell you what is wrong.

Hi
My 1999 Diamante does this all the time. Gas is formulated differently from brand to brand, and sometimes the computer can really compensate, some brands have more oxygen in them and some dont. Here are some things you can do.
1 If there is an Autozone in your area, they can downlaod the code and tell you exactly what is happening
2 Your gas cap could have a leaky vaccum, and this will cause your emiisions systems to mis calculate also.
3 Use a product called RXP in your gas, this will clean the emiision systems and allow the computer to calibrate correctly.

I had this happen, too. The gas cap needs to click a few times when you tighten it to be sure you have the right seal. Start there.

In your manual it says how to reset the light. It comes on just about every time you get to a number divisible by 5,000 miles. You turn the key one step - don't start the car - then hold down the trip meter button. Still holding it down, turn the key off then back one click. If the odometer goes to 00000 then the light should go off. It's in the manual but hard to find. Your odometer will go back to your actual mileage.

Remove and retighten the gas cap. The dealer will tell you what the check engine light error code means. Also read your car's owner's manual in that regard.

It just needs to be reset. Go to the dealer and they will show you how to do this. Old 2004 Highlander similar experience and the car was in great shape.

You need a diagnostic. Pep Boys, Auto Zone and parts stores like them generally do these for free.
