17,000 divided by 60 = 284 gallons
284 x 4.54 = 1,291 litres
1,291 x 0.989 = £1,277

Volkswagen Lupo 1.2L TDI gets 90+ MPG. But it was never imported to the US. The MPG #'s on those cars are actually a lot less when driven like people do in 2007. By 1973 standards (No A/C, 55 mph, 0-60 in 20 seconds) they got 60 mpg. Get an older 1990's Honda Civic CRX HF (High Fuel Economy). Really got over 50 MPG! Check out www.fueleconomy.gov The Volkswagen Jetta gets almost 50 mpg, and you can fill it up at your local restaurant for free. You can get a used one cheap and technically get unlimited "miles per gallon" of petroleum. Just make sure it is the diesel model. Good luck!

(17000/60) * 4.546 * 0.989
17000/60 = 283.33 gallons.
283.33 * 4.546 = 1288 litres
@ £0.989 per litre, that equals £1273 (to the nearest pound).
Additional to above: Your first answer of £200 was funnier. Oops! That's 98.9p per litre, not gallon! Nicely edited :P

so if you travel 60 miles on a gallon of fuel then you must use 283 gallons of fuel per year there that would be 1071 litres of fuel therefore you spend 1059 pounds and 22 pence approximately.
