Your foundation, your focus, should be prayer. That's your starting point. When we pray, we enter into communion with God. That's the gift He gave us in prayer. Go to Him and ask Him to show you the way. Ask Him to enter your heart.
Prayer is the core of the Christian life. Without it, we have nothing.
I'm Catholic, so the next thing I'll naturally suggest is to visit Him at the highest prayer we have - the Holy Mass. I invite you to go to Him there. Sit, pray, just spend some time with God. No one else, just the two of you. He will show you the way.
God bless.

I respect your sincerity, and if we could sit down and talk I suspect we would at least agree that each of us has a spiritual nature within us that yearns for something greater than ourselves. Centuries ago, a great philosopher called this a "God-shaped vacuum" we each have within us.
But where did this vacuum in our hearts come from? The Bible says that God put it there—and the reason He did was so that we would seek Him and come to know Him in a personal way. You and I have a soul that yearns for God; as the Bible says, God "has also set eternity in the hearts of men" (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
But the Bible tells us something else very important. It tells us there is a barrier between us and God—a barrier we cannot overcome on our own. The reason is because this barrier that separates us from God was caused by our sin. Our greatest need is to have our sins forgiven, and this is something no amount of meditation or similar practice can overcome.
Only God can erase this barrier—and this is why Jesus Christ came into the world. He was God in human flesh, sent from heaven to save us from our sins. Don't be deceived by paths that promise to unite you with God but don't deal with your sins. Instead, by faith commit your life to Jesus Christ and trust Him alone for your salvation. Only then will you discover the joy and peace you are seeking.

Begin by understanding that your relationship with God is eternally established. You can never lose it, you need not develop it.
There is no need to be "Christian" or any other religion...just be you. Study, learn, live. Just be. The Reality that is behind the concept and concepts of God is infinitely loving and to this love there is no catch.
What you have received, give freely. What you have given, receive.

You don't have to be Christian to have a relationship with God. (I know many Christians are going to counter by saying he is the only way but whatever) If you want to have a relationship with God then start talking to him. Pray and study on your OWN! Don't let anyone in R&S tell you check out their personal religion to learn more about God. Best for you to study on your own and find out which religion is right for you. OR maybe you are like the many 100,000 of people who clain no religion but believe in God. There are many books on spirituality and prayer, I suggest you check those out. Best of luck to you.

Christianity doesn't have the monopoly of God. Being religious is not the perfect way to God either.
The best way for you to do now is to search your inner-self and ask: Do I really need God? Do I really want to talk to a God? Do I have to have a God? Am I desperate for God?
If the answer to the above questions is a resounding "YES", then go out and find where He is. Don't go out if the "yes" is not resounding enough to make you deaf, it just means you're not prepared. You're not desperate enough. You can commit a "slow dose of spiritual suicide" if you do.
He is just there. So, when searching for Him "outside", try to talk to a minister, pastor, priest, Imam or Rabbi and tell him your desperation for a God. One of them can put you on the right track. Remember, He is close to whose spirit is broken, and heart's contrite.

before you go to sleep just sit up put your hands together and pray - just talk about things you need to improve in your life, how to be a better person. I guarantee you'll know someones listening. You don't have to be a christian or belong to a religion but talking to god really helps sort out your life. Good luck :)

Start with Judaism.
They take the god concept and make it rather more sensible...
From there... just whittle down the ritualistic stuff and stick with the basic concepts.

Well, you're taking the first step.
James 4:4 says "draw close to God and he will draw close to you"
God has a personal name... Jehovah ... though many will disagree. Pray to get to know him, using his name. You might be surprised at what happens.
