Either or both. a perfect god would not write an imperfect bible. in any event god did not write anything, man did. therefore to disagree with the bible, you merely have to disagree with man. That makes the bible (and any other religious document for that matter) an extremely weak instrument of faith. Good grief look at all the fundies posts. Gen 1 and 2, man before plants or man after plants, both can't be true. get a grip, you fundies obviously have convinced yourself. Too bad you can't convince anyone else. LOL

Well, fundamentalists seem to take it that way. I figure if I was a Christian, I'd hide behind the fact that the Bible has been translated over and over between when it was written and when it finally got to whatever version I'm using (King James, no doubt, if one is a fundie). So you can always blame the translator.

I'm not sure anyone takes seriously the idea that even the translators were divinely inspired. If they do, God help them (as it were)!

I accept as true with you that there are inconsistancies interior the bible- and that it is in lots of situations observed naively with out questions asked. Your opinion does count form. attempt to no longer assume all Christians think of it would not because of the somewhat some extremists on those boards. I published a query adressed to Christians at present and had some people who weren't necessarilly the way I portrayed it. merely be careful as no longer all Christians persist with the bible interior the comparable what. i think of i visit flow with a million because of the fact it is been shown that texts have been replaced to justify intolerance and mass-homicide over the years. some would have been guided to jot down interior the bible others would have been stating how they see the international. In my undemanding opinion the bible replaced into written by employing guy reflecting their perspectives over the years and adjusted while handy or a would desire to wipe out yet another concept occured. that may not in any respect asserting Christians are incorrect so do no longer start up that crap

There are no errors? Have you never read the Bible?

Matthew -- Mary and Joseph live in Bethlehem. The Magi arrive in Bethlehem following a star. Angel warns Joseph in a dream to go to Egypt. They move back, but go to Nazareth.

Luke -- Mary and Joseph live in Nazareth and go to Bethlehem for a census. Angels and Shepherd visit the baby in a stable. They go back home to Nazareth.

Matthew has no angel chorus, nor shepherds, knows nothing of a census, and knows nothing of a stable.

Luke doesn't know about Egypt, the Magi or a star, or that they lived in Bethlehem originally.

These 2 stories are not compatible. If one is true, the other must be false. They cannot both be true...

Anyone can say they are divinely inspired. The original writers of the Bible may have been divinely inspired, but it was written by, translated by, and transcribed by humans, some who could have had their own agenda. Just look at history and some of the "divinely inspired" atrocities that were committed. Not everything done by humans in God's name is going to turn out well. Much that stuff isn't divinely inspired, they just think it is. So, think what you want.

It depends. There are heresies out there that say the bible is perfect, word for word said by God. (this is new, and only a few hundred years old in Christianity, prior to that, the bible was understood as it is) Of course, the vast group of Christian's take the "Big road" through this heresy, while few take the "small road" understanding the stories are allegory, and true deep in the psychological make-up of the human, who our creator (or creators?) has the inside scoop on.

If a Christian admits to at least an error in the Bible it doesn't mean that that person is correct as he is not the basis for truth. The basis for truth is the Bible and the perfect God and not the human being who is admittedly imperfect.

The Bible is perfect enough to leave any theologian or historian in awe and human enough to allow any unbeliever doubt.

If there is an error in a history book, does that mean its not inspired by history?

The Bible was written by people. Yes they may have been inspired by God but they were still capable of making mistakes.
