Why not? Jimmy Swaggart did it. He got caught with a prostitute and his "flock" forgave him. LOL. Televangilism and religion is where the $$$$ is.

It's rather tough to tell. Given my family history, it is likely that I would have entered the priesthood or been burned as a heretic. Then too, it is hard to tell how many people then were atheists as they generally were killed or torture until they recanted. The reason that I'm an atheist has little to do with my culture, as I based my decision to be an atheist on researching the evidence for the Bible, creationism and Jesus, or as I found out, the lack of it. This would have been hard to do during the Middle ages. Given the actions of much of the priesthood at various times, I'd bet that while they may not have been atheists they were not Christians.

I've thought about this in depth, I really, really need lots of money.

And I'm sure I could make a lot if I could scam people, religious or otherwise.

But I have this damn thing called a conscience and every night when I close my eyes and go to sleep I have to be able to live with myself.

So, no I would not fake religious beliefs to make lots of cash. I also wouldn't steal babies, or scam old folks. But that's just me.

No, I couldn't do it for the selfish reason of my own personal integrity. I won't even lie about my beliefs to fit in or avoid being socially uncomfortable. I know someone who does this to the extreme though. She runs a business making money off religious items and with customers throws out religious expressions and even attends a church. She says to myself and others she knows though how ridiculous she thinks it all is and how when she can't wait to retire so she doesn't have to deal with the religious and their bs anymore. Who knows maybe she says whatever she thinks the person she is with wants to hear? That is also part of why I think its sort of off to do this. How can anyone trust to know the real you? I can't imagine leading a life so out of touch with my own inner mental working or having to always portray myself as something other than who I am. It sounds psychologically draining to me. I am glad I don't have to! I guess people have differences though. I don't think that is a religious versus unreligious thing though. There are plenty of less than honest religious people out there. If you say then they aren't really religious then I say there are lots more nonreligious than I've ever heard the religious care to admit.

I could consider it as an option, except I would sort of consider it the same as scamming someone, therefore I couldn't probably do it in the end. I actually thought of it at one point,I looked at all the money being made in the Evangelical movement, and it crossed my mind that it would not be that hard for a smart person to get in there and take a little of that action. But in the end it's theft, and while far from perfect I'm not a thief.

How could faking a religious belief make lots of money?

No, I would not do this. I have morals, even if I don't believe in god(s).

No way, not ever I would not even
pretend to be religious for one
minute to start with. I do the right
thing, I give to charities, I put my
rubbish in the bin, I don't steal,
I don't kill people, I don't gay bash,
I don't racially discriminate and so on.
I am Atheist I hope this is as honest
as you want it to be.

There's a really good living to be made from religion IF you can keep a straight face.

The older I get the more difficult I find it is to lie.
I was quite good at it when I was young.

I wouldn't, but I will tell you that i do not announce that I am an atheist. I do not lie and say that I am a Christian, but where I live, it would be professional suicide. I think that it is terrible when Christians say they are the ones who are in the minority.

If I was dishonest, selfish, and a better liar maybe. I was thinking the church of Christopher Walken or Optimus Prime.

Of course No! That is one of the main reasons why we are atheists! You can notice that by the answers atheists usually give at R&S!
