There are some Christians and some atheists on this site. There are also a lot of silly children (claiming to be either) who think it's like supporting a football team. Let them keep using the site so everyone can see just how childish they are.

This site has opened my eyes a little. Not in terms of my beliefs, I assure you. If they were swayed by a web site, they wouldn't be very strong beliefs would they?
No, it's just that I don't encounter this Atheist / Christian divide in my daily life. It's just not that big a deal in the UK. But then over here we don't have too many religious hang ups. [yeah, of course there are extreme people on all sides of all kinds of things, BNP, Radicals etc] There just isn't this big deal that you have to appear to be Christian to be wholesome.
The word god is probably used in the UK more as an exclamation than as a reference to the 'lord'. I hope that is not upsetting for the Christians, it should be a relief. England: The place where you can be who you are and not too often will any one give you a hard time for it.
Anyway, what I do think is that so long as there is atheist bashing going on there's less 'other faith' insults being chucked. After all we heathens can take it, can't we? [and no I'm not suggesting that anyone right here is doing that but it is going on at YA]
Atheism: the best buffer between faiths a world can get...
So they need us, you see and we help the world to be a better, richer place. True Christians would always recognise that value. Surely?

Some really good points raised here among your answers.
Before I go into my 'waffle' mode , I am atheist, I am not an evolutionist (as known by some)?
Evolution, is a theory much more believable than any religious fairy tale, but that doesn't mean I must believe it! I just do not believe there is a God.
So why do I come into this forum?
I have a few problems, one is when I am on the Internet I keep having 'pop up's' yes I have all the latest gear installed to prevent them, but they keep 'popping up'!
A lot of these pop up's appear on other sections of this forum, they are mainly from Christians, sticking their oar into places .
The other problem is with homosexuals who do the same thing!! Strange that don't you think?
Now even as an atheist I know we should not mock the afflicted, but I have a compulsion to join in the Homo and religion bits on answers.
Now if they want to answer a question on 'politics' 'fishing' or whatever, they are welcome, I dont need to know that they 'love God' while they are doing it, or that they love their wifes brother!!!
If they keep out of my face, I am only too happy to keep away from this other cr*p.

If we atheists weren't here, many of the Christians would still spend their time arguing with the Jews, Muslims, and Pagans. There would always be another group that would disagree with them and therefore another reason for argument or debate.
If we were going to start removing groups simply because of their differing religious beliefs or lack there of, there would be no need for a Religion & Spirituality Section. It would eventually just come to be a Christian Section...which doesn't sound like very much fun at all (to me).

I hope not, as an agnostic but someone who is interested in history and religion this debate is very healthy for all of us, I would have loved to been able to discuss religion this openly when I was at school. I left school 18 years ago to give you some idea of the timescale. I am also English.

Athiests, Christians, Jews, Sikhs, Muslems, Buddists, everyone has the same human rights. To bar one section of people is tantamount to discrimination

I think people who dont believe there is a god would be happy if all those who do are removed from the planet as the world will be a more peaceful place.
I dont think christians or followers of any other faith would want to remove atheists as there would be no one to try and convert.

Everyone has their own opinion regarding religion. It's questions like these that cause some much hatred in the world regarding who believes in what. At the end of the day there is no proof about the history in any religion, it's just what people believe in. Let them be.

It encourages good debate and mental excersise!
One thing i have always wondered. If an atheist says they do not beleive in God, then surley by naming him they are establishing a form of recognition and hence belief. Am i being grammatically pedantic, i.e. they should say they don't believe in the Concept of a God, or is it purley by naming God you are in essence establishing belief.
I've no problem either way. i think diverse beleifs make it all the more exciting a place to live. If you are passionate about something then go fot it.

No! Atheist help me to confirm my beliefs. Just as in any group though theres going to be bad apples. If one could just step over the bad apples and not be bothered by them to get to the ones that are not yet ripened this site would be beneficial for all.
