Sometimes I feel like having breakfast in my room instead of sitting down in a hotel restaurant/dining area when I travel only by myself. Is it okay if you go there and take the food to your room, suppose it is a breakfast buffet?

We do it all the time; we even travel with a tray! I go down to the buffet and grab coffees, juices, bagels, fruit, etc and schlep it back up to the room. Then we turn on Cartoon Network and chow down. Most "free breakfast" hotels are very accomodating so far as taking an extra apple "for later," but I wouldn't abuse the privilige by using the buffet as a free grocery store.

Generally buffets will not allow you to take food to your room because you are not supposed to be taking food that you will eat later. When you check into the hotel you can ask them this question and they will most likely make some sort of arrangement for you.

Yes, in hotels you can take things from the buffet back to your room and you can just leave the dishes in the room at check out time. Or you can order room service and have something delivered to your room.

Yes, this is acknowleged as an acceptable behavior in more casual hotels. Very formal hotels will have room service and you are expected to use it.

However, the comfort of guests is always the first priority of a good hotel and they are not there to pass judgement on your manners and customs. Just don't make a spectacle of yourself around other guests and you'll be fine.

I work in a hotel and we tell the guests that you can eat your breakfast were every you like as long as you are comfortable. You can't go in the back like the kitchen or behind the front desk and you can not eat in front of someone Else's guest room door, So you can eat any where else you like...

as long as you don't fill trash bags full of food to take back to the room I think it is perfectly acceptable. Yes I saw this happen in the hotel I worked at.

I don't see why not. I certainly would if I was by myself! I don't like eating alone very much, unless I am home. (Actually, not even then!)
