No, not Paris Hilton. I'm referring to the Trojan Prince. The story goes something like this. Paris had a golden apple which three Greek goddess wanted (note that throughout history Apples + Women = Chaos). Athena promised him wisdom of the world, Hera (I think) promised him great wealth, and Aphrodite promised him the heart of the most beautiful woman alive.
Were you in his shoes, which goddess would you give that apple to and why?

LOL Jack! I would have thought of the male gods you would have chosen Dionysus, but Apollo is indeed HAWT!

this is a trick question. For all have not contemplated the consequences of all courses.

"in the abundance of knowledge there is an abundance of pain" Ecclesiastes.

Riches bring apathy, and depression.

And Women! Well, need I say more.

It's hard to choose between the wisdom and the wealth.

I wouldn't be so certain as others here that wisdom would bring wealth and Helen's heart, though I think it's quite possible. But you could certainly make a similar argument for the value of wealth. It can't be seriously denied that wealth wins over the hearts of women. What about buying wisdom? Well, wealth can buy free time, and pay tuition.

It seems to come down to what you want to work for and what you want to be just given. It seems to me that earning your wisdom would be more satisfying than earning your wealth.

Alternatively, if you have enough wealth, you don't have to be wise - you can simply say that you are, and people will agree. I wouldn't find that satisfying, but there are plenty of people who obviously do.

For myself, I think I'd take the wealth.

I would have taken a different route entirely; the apple, you see, was not Paris's initiative. It was tossed into the works by Eris, the Goddess of discord. Paris was under no compulsion to personally award the apple; it wasn't his idea in the first place. He might have graciously bowed out, or left Eris's apple for Eris to award herself.

Were it me, however, I would have ditched the three and awarded the apple to Apollo. I swing both ways, you know. ;)

Athena. With the wisdom she gave you you could gain the wealth that Hera promised and then you could gain the love of Helen Of Troy.

He was young so for that I understand his decision, but if it were me I'd have given the apple to Athena.
