Like actually coming up with some proof that 'God' exists?

I think if ALL people, regardless of religion would channel more of their energies into useful & practical pursuits then the world would be a much better place.

Just imagine:

No more useless garbage invented that is only ever sold on infomercials & then again at the next garage sale for an amount that doesn't even cover the postage you paid in the first place.....

No more weapons & devices with the sole purpose of destruction.....

Just good, thoughtful people trying their best to be nice to their fellow humans.

Since when did christians or indeed humans in general EVER decide to direct their energy to the cause of practicality?

Life itself doesn't care too much about practicality. It isn't actually trying to achieve anything afterall... and without the human delusion of purpose and function, the notion of practicality is worthless.

The Church isn't "the church" if it isn't using energy for God to accomplish something useful. Fact is, many non-christians fail to understand that many christians do in fact give time, resources, vocations and etc. in order to obey and do the will of God. I know this first hand because I am a product of a faith based establishment called Christ's Haven for Children. I was raised there from the time I was 7 going on 8. Having been in a state run childrens home called The Fowler Children's Home in the state of Texas I can tell you which was preferable. At the Haven we had houseparents who were people that lived, sometimes for many years, as parents to a household for up to 15 kids, plus the staff, councelors, therapists, coaches, ranch hands and etc. Not to mention that each child is sponsered financially by either a congregation of the Church of Christ (not LDS) or an individual of family. Not just financially either. I had "family" sponsers as well because I had no relatives of my own to go home to on visitations or holidays so I went to them. Now as an adult, I live in Alaska and here there are plenty of examples of faith based organizations that are accomplishing at least in part some of the goals established by Christ. We are implored by Him to give of ourselves. If you can't give time, give money. No money, give what you can. If you can't give at all, then give by the heart in how you treat other people and the example you set or in word or deed. Its the Ekklesia (the Church) - people gathered for a purpose (the body of Christ). You can find these people all over the world from every nation under heaven. When they go away...and the time will come...then you will see a whole different world. Still, let the Bible tell you what a "christian" is...not the world. The world lies...

James 1:27
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

I think missions and charities such as the Salvation Army would fall under that category. Having said that, I agree that some people spend too much time pondering the intricacies of the written word when they could be doing something more productive- hobbies, work, supporting the arts or whatever.

Real Christians do.

God is the source, end and inspiration for doing good( such the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy, like caring for the sick, sorrowing and imprisoned).

Take Mother Teresa ,for example, as someone who practiced what she preached

Some Christians squander their energies in hatred,self-righteousness,moral laziness and/or scrupulosity.

The same goes for Muslims and other religionists and philosophers.

Shouldn't you direct all your concerns and time to something of your own interest? They must be targeting something. Were you once a christian and know the uselessness of being one?

The Apostle Paul didn't set out to jail to write a book, it came about by doing God's will. Never get so busy for God that you miss God.
